(From the offices of the Leetonian Prime Minister)
Greetings,
I humbly request that you endorse a proposal recently submitted by my nation's legislature. It is a Moral Decency proposal focusing on banning child pornography. At current it is on the 5th page of proposals, but in case it moves, it is entitled "OUTLAW CHILD PORNOGRAPHY". I have personally conducted some polls and found that this proposal has a good degree of support, around 75% of those polled would personally endorse this proposal. Please review quickly as the voting ends tomorrow, Sun, June 20, 2004.

Thank you

Renegade L. Ardel

2b) INCLUDING, in the definition presented in clause 2a, any written media featuring detailed accounts of acts described in aforementioned clause.

Even if it is fiction?

What about stories set in the past or anything with teenagers in it. A 'fully developed' teenager is different then a young child and certain activities are normal for them. This law doesn’t take into account the context where it is found. It could be used in a story to dehumanise a character or even a Childs account of what happened to it.

Even if it is portrayed in a good light (a teen romance, for example), as long as the characters are fictional why would that hurt anyone.

If someone copies what is written in a book it's their problem not the author

You do not have our support.

Read clause 4. I hate it when people find something they don't like and stop reading, even when their complaint is included in a later clause. Also, note the word "Detailed". I have read non-porn acts of fiction involving sex, and they were just vague enough enough that they could slip through the loophole.

Leetonia, I think in this case it would be wise to include in this forum a somewhat detailed description of each clause as you wrote it.

There is still some confusion and misunderstanding with some areas (I, myself agree, but this is for those that don't).

If you were to give such a description, then people would see more of what you mean, and then be more likely to agree with it, and then support it.

Just my thoughts.

Strangely enough I read clause 4. I just didn't think it covered the issues I was addressing adequately because it leads to government controlled censorship which I disagree with. It also fails to take into account that works of fiction that have artistic merit.

In fact, not only did I read all of it but I went out looking for it. It's good practise to include a copy of your proposal so we may comment on it.

I have read non-porn acts of fiction involving sex, and they were just vague enough enough that they could slip through the loophole.

But still, even if it was a graphic fictional description of underage sex, the piece itself is not hurting anyone.

The Grand Duchy of Northrobland was at first frightened and offended by this resolution. But, upon more careful study, we have come to the conclusion that this resolution may be acceptable, on the following grounds:

1) The resolution does not affect lesbian cheerleader pornography, which is truly beloved by Northroblanders everywhere;
2) The resolution does not disallow pornography featuring adults in pigtails, diapers, sucking lollipops, or riding rocking horses, another Northrobland staple;
3) Pictures of the Grand Duke of Northrobland, Duke Rob I, dressed in and using the regalia listed in Para. 2), are not caught up in the resolution's scope; and
4) Child pornographers stole $27 and a pack of cigarettes from me, and I want it back. Perhaps by jailing them, I will be able to track a couple of them down and ask for the $27 back. At least I think it was child pornographers. It might have been Tibetan monks.

That is all... for now...

Sir, I respectfully ask that you think before posting. Half of your terms do not involve child pornography, only adult porn.

And child pornographers OR Tibeten Monks stealing from you has nothing to do with actual pornography.

I urge your nation to accept the proposal as you seem to have no problems with what is written already.

I agree that some of my terms may have reflected my fear of an outlawing of adult pornography. But is this not a legitimate fear?

Without safeguards in place, outlawing one form of expression can be a dangerously slippery slope to outlawing other forms. Perhaps I failed to express that fear fully. But what better argument is there to protect our freedom of speech than the hard-earned and distinctive right to view and publish consensual adult pornography? What more poetic argument can there be than my right to turn on my computer, type in the search words "Midget Brides", and then to spend hours dowloading and viewing the most graphic images imaginable? Watching midget women in vomit-inducing positions and commiting sexual acts unfathomable to all but the most depraved imaginations is my right, sir, and I would never, ever give it up to anyone, for anything.

I also take issue with your challenging my desire to get my $27 back. Those damnable monks and their thievery. And what of the child pornographers? Everyone is saying "Let's stop them from making child pornography", but where are the people saying "Let's get Rob his $27 back"? The pain for me, ultimately, is palpable.

God bless you all.

I can see your point, and I know that it is not unwarranted, but this issue is encompasing only CHILD pornography, not adult porn, not midget porn, not theavery by monks. Although I do feel for you and your lost $27. If you like I will re-emberse you since I am a generous man in a generous nation. (Can you smell the good PR?)

point of this proposal (which died with 80+ endorsements) was to pick up where that resolution left off. Btw, is there a limit to how many times you can submit a proposal?
