Ban coal power

Coal power is a very dangerous thing, in fact no other single industry comes close to matching the negative impact from electric power plants. They are the single largest industrial source of some of our worst air pollutants, including sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, and mercury. Among power plants, the dirty old coal-fired facilities produce the most pollution." Older coal plants produce as much as ten times more sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides than newer coal plants, and higher amounts of other pollutants as well.
We the United Nations must stop this atrocity before it begins!

One minor problem. Some UN nations can only afford Coal Power Plants. If this ban goes into affect, this will hurt several UN nations not to mention Economies of Coal Exporters. As such, I will have to vote no if this comes to a resolulution vote. And besides, there is such a thing as clean burning Coal Power Plants!

I agree with my esteemed colleague from Corneliu.
It is not possible for some countries to eliminate coal burning plants. Perhaps a proposal on helping countries that use coal burning power plants to become more environmentally friendly would be better.

They could use wind power. Its the cheapest way, this does require space to put them, but its a cheaper cleaner alternative.

Why stop at only wind power? Through in solar power and hydro-electric as well, and perhaps nuclear.

I think making coal plants more envirmentally friendly would help as well. But, why are we still in the "stone age" power wise? Let's move ahead to more sustainable, cleaner, cheaper power alternatives.

I also agree with Corneliu, and even coming from a non-coal producing region, I will bitterly oppose this action. Coal is King in many places, better to have a little pollution then people freezing and starving.

The proposal is simply outrageous. The coal ressource of our planet is much bigger than all oil and gas ressources together. We simply need this form of energy. There is a proposal suggesting the reduction of the use of oil and now of coal: WHAT SHOULD WE USE THAN TO PRODUCE OUR ENERGY????? The so called alternative energies are not able to replace those.
We strongly oppose this proposal.

By the way: there are modern coal power plants which produce very little pollution. A modern coal power plant produces much less pollution than older oil power plants which are still used in many NS nations and Real world nations.

Sincerely yours

The Telidian government is completely in favour of using renewable energy sources, however I believe the representative statement is not completely factual. Whilst the wind is certainly free, the technology used by wind turbines is very expensive and a large amount of investment is required in both the planning and development of wind farms. In addition this form of energy is not constant and nations must therefore have backups to ensure continuous supply.

That is not say this is not a viable option, but when a nation is looking at its energy resources I feel it should take in to account all forms of energy sources to create a coherent policy, whether it be fossil, nuclear or renewable sources. Nations can’t simply get rid of one form of energy; the gap needs to be filled by something else.

The question that is really facing us is how do we reduce green house gasses in the atmosphere and meet the growing energy demands of the world?
