UN Appeal Procedure
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.
Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Kamsaki
Description: We, the Member states of the United Nations,
AWARE that the United Nations has become increasingly dismissed by the Nation States of the world as a "Talk Shop";
CONCERNED that many member states have been forced to resign from the organisation as a result of conflict in moral viewpoints;
NOTING that for the United Nations to succeed as a diplomatic body, it must contain representatives from a number of different religious bodies and political groups;
ALARMED that no resolutions have been made to deal with the various conflicts around the world in the entire of this body's history;
DISTRESSED by the still valid UN Ruling on legalising Euthanasia and the active resolution on Abortion on Demand;
1) RECOMMEND that the use of UN Proposals be extended to encompass current NationStates affairs;
2) REQUEST that the UN uses its authority to play a role in International Incidents should it be required;
3) URGE Member states to cut down on the number of "Moral Battleground" resolutions submitted to the organisation;
4) SUGGEST that the UN allow specific, individual or general appeals against previous United Nations Resolutions to be submitted as proposals to the body;
5) CALL UPON UN Member States to take such appeals seriously;
6) FURTHER RECOMMEND all current non-UN States to join the organisation for the benefit of all, noting that problems with existing resolutions can be dealt with as outlined in clause 4;
7) DECIDE to remain firm on this matter.
Please note that this is not an attempt to change Game Mechanics; it is an attempt to call out to UN members to use existing systems in a more appropriate manner.
Okay. I've submitted this resolution to the UN for a large number of reasons, most of which will be apparent to those who actually get around to reading this. Like many nations, Kamsaki is sick and tired of the endless list of "Controversial" issues that have been played to death by this organisation. We are taking this opportunity to request a shift in focus by the United Nations from Social Control of its individual states to the solution of issues through constant evaluation of its rulings.
The key things that I would like to see emerge from this:
1) That issues ongoing in the Nationstates world, that is the NS and II forums, start to become raised in proposals, forcing the world's politicians to actually wake up and see what's going on in the world around them rather than sit and consider whether or not they should allow people to commit suicide, refuse to pay taxes, hang their babies out of trees or such junk.
2) Vice versa, that people previously only engaged in affairs through the United Nations start to talk through events rather than existing in isolation.
3) That more people begin to take an active role in the United Nations. The allowance of an appeal procedure through the Proposal system should hopefully bring back those who have been driven away by the immobile system of moral dictatorship that the UN has thus far restricted upon its member states.
4) Finally, the dissipation of the current trend of voting. Member states have, regardless of what a resolution implies, been voting according to the points they receive from resolutions rather than the effect it would have on global affairs. This needs to stop; hopefully the use of more integral resolutions will end that trend.
All support for this proposal would be appreciated; all criticisms taken on board.
