My issues with the current UN proposal.

I don't normally wade in over here in the UN forum, but I've got to say that the biggest problem with this current resolution is its vagueness in almost every aspect. There's no definitions for anything. What falls into the public domain? After how long? What's copyrightable? Are there any limitations on the copyright? If so, for how long and what limitations? If not, then what sort of protections are in place for the holder of copyright? Is copyright transferable? If it is, then does that restart the clock on the copyright life or does it continue from the original registration?

And those are just the questions from off the top of my head. This resolution is just bad in every respect. I'm glad this wouldn't have any effect on the real world--I'm a writer whose life is directly affected by copyright law and a resolution like this would open me up to allsorts of idiotic ramifications.

Come on folks--think about what you're voting for and what you're proposing before you put this stuff up for the rest of us.
