Proposal: Help Trees Protect Themselves

Greetings, fellow UN members. For your consideration, the following is a proposal I have recently submitted to the UN:

Help Trees Protect Themselves
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental Industry Affected: Woodchipping Proposed by: General Mike

Description: Logging companies are evil, unscrupulous organisations. Well, maybe not all of them, but most of them are. If you tell them that you don't want them to go anywhere near a patch of forest, chances are the next time you look it'll be filled with tree stumps and bulldozers. And what can you do about it? Not much really. By the time you get there to try and stop them, it will be too late, another area of natural beauty will have been destroyed.

So, how are we to stop this barbaric practice? Easy. I propose that the UN should take a leaf out of my book and genetically engineer trees to be able to defend themselves. Then we shall plant these trees around the perimeters of areas we want to keep loggers out of. Would you dare challenge a tree if it was trying to throttle you with its branches? Of course not.

"But genetic engineering is evil!" I hear you say. Certainly, but in this case it is the lesser of 2 evils. "But what if the trees start to reproduce and we get overrun by these genetically engineered monsters?" you may ask. Well, you see, that's the beauty of it: we'll engineer the trees so they CAN'T reproduce.

Only with the support of UN nations can we stop these rogue loggers in their tracks and keep our forests safe. Please support this proposal. Thank you for your time.

- General Mike

I would be very grateful for any support of this proposal. Thank you. :)

BTW, this is my first ever proposal, so if it's badly worded etc, please tell me so I can make improvements for possible future proposals.

I like the sound of genetically engineered trees of death, but I feel the technology used to produce them would be far better used to create a genetically engineered Super Soldier.

My nation is willing to discuss the monitary requirements you would need to create an army of said "Super Soldiers" for my nation.

I'm for your protector-trees!
(Did you by any chance watch Totally Spies for this idea? *grin*)

Ingleby Barwick, telegram me if you wish to discuss the possibility of creating genetically engineered Super Soliders.

Chinobe, I have never seen an episode of Totally Spies (I'm not even sure what it is :?). This idea is from my scarily vivid imagination.

Honourable member from General Mike, I am at a loss with regard to this proposal. Firstly if I may, please can I refer you to two threads on the first page of the United Nations forum entitled, “United Nations Resolution Writing Guide” and “Before you make a proposal”. It contains a wealth of information, which I feel you will find useful if you are going to write any more proposals.

To deal with this proposal, firstly it does nothing. There are no measures to be taken by anyone, which render it useless. Secondly, what you are proposing seems little more than fantasy. I suggest should you wish to make proposals to help the environment you firstly do some research, and then do a search on the forum to see how the topic has been argued in the past. You will find the UN forum have a wealth of information. Lastly enlist the help of others so that your arguments can be challenged, this will allow you develop stronger ideas and develop a proposal that you will be able to argue with fact.

It is not my intention to belittle what you have done, since this is obviously a subject you care about, but rather to help you understand how to go about proving what you believe in is right.

Respectfully,
Lydia Cornwall – UN Ambassador
HM Government of Telidia

OR you could build a few treehouses and install a mother in law in them. Not only would no-one dare cut the trees down, but you wouldn't want to near them t do so in the first place. Simple, but effective. Although we are drawn to the idea of killer trees......and will support in light of the boring self righteous dross we normally see heere.

Are you sure that doing that won't make people want to cut the trees down even more in the hopes that the mother in law gets killed somehow?

Cute, but unfortunately it comes under the label of 'Joke Proposal' in the UN
