Think of the people who have to work overtime to make ends meet. People need to work more than 40 hours a week. Setting a 40 hour limit is not good, and should not pass.

They get paid overtime for that overtime they have to work, a rate greater than the regular pay for the forty hours. It is a way to compensate them for having to put in the 'extra' time. Through your example, those people would not be helped by abolishing the '40 hour work week,' they'd be harmed. They would have to work even longer hours to achieve the same income. This only helps employers, who would be able to work thier employees longer with less pay.
no dice.
