UN Proposal -- Human Cloning
There is a proposal for "Human Cloning" submitted by my nation -- The Republic of Kaneya, and I hope that everyone will vote on it either for or against. It will end May 20th, 2004. You can find the proposal by going to United Nations and then typing "Human Cloning" in the search box. Thank you.

Sometimes it is nice to also post a copy of the proposal here. One good reason: it can generate a debate which UN Delegates might see.

Don't mind if I do. <_<

Human Cloning
Category: Human Rights; A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Kaneya
Description: Authorize Human Cloning -- nationstates.net
We should authorize human cloning so that we can learn more about the human body. The medical knowledge we gain while proceeding with human cloning will enable us to find cures for diseases that have eluded our doctors. It should be the goal of every nation to be able to produce designer children for parents. To be able to produce new kidney's and hearts, new testicles and ovaries, and various other replacement body parts for people that have lived an indulgent lifestyle or suffer from disease. We should proceed with human cloning with the goal of eventually being able to transfer a persons consciousness from their current body to the body they themselves design. Passing this bill will allow heavy drinkers to replace their livers, and smokers to replace their lungs. It provides a greater level of freedom, and should be passed by all.
Voting Ends: Thu May 20 2004
Hm. Not bad. I may endorse this at some point when I go through the proposals listing later tonight. Either way, I'd encourage you to stick around and debate your heart out in these here forums.
While it looks all fine and dandy, I do have to say what so many other people have said about other proposals. This is more for individual nations than for the whole UN. Now, I can see banning human cloning, but not authorizing it :)
good try though

My first thought would have been to vote yes, but your point is a strong one.
Perhaps the proponent of this proposal could explain why there is an international need for action? Though it sounded as if some of the justification was in using clones as spare parts ... which would put this proposal not that much removed from the Alternative Fuels resolution of way back. Basically an idea to provide more resources.
But that of course brings up ethical issues ...

Woah, woah, woah. Lets all step back a minute. Before we even start thinking about the merits of the ideas behind the resolution, how about we make sure the resolution is actually a resolution, and not a policy opinion in essay format. Please, people. Let's harken back to our roots for a moment, and remember that we're role playing diplomats here, not playing in a high school MUN.
Kaneya, would you consider writing this again using the guide I have posted at the top of the forum? Or if you're not confident with the format, perhaps we can get together via AIM or something and talk through it?
Sincerely yours,
Daniel M. Hillaker

Human Cloning is inhumane! You've got to be kidding me! You wanna clone people in a labratory, cut them up, and store them in a freezer and forget about them so you can drink like a fish, smoke twenty packs a day and not protect other regions of your body?
Plus, it takes everything natural out of creating life. When you alter with nature, it is bound to bite you in the ass!

And yet isn't that the very nature of medicine, construction, gardening, and even breathing?
We always tamper.

While the benefits could be huge, it's a very slippery slope to go down.
It's not a far leap from medical purposes to militery purposes and so on.

While we have no problem with cloning for tissue purposes, we would reject anything which would force us to allow cloning anything human and allowing it to reach legal status - that is, beyond the stage of legal abortion. It's all very well (and even laudable) to play around with tissues, but not with people.
