Support Education Systems or Military forces?

When comparing the two, what are we really saying? Are we saying,

"Teaching our future, or demolishing it in war"? This is a question I'm sure

many debate about.

When we fund for our Education Systems, we are not only helping

those who would love to learn, but we are teaching those who will create

our future country. We are teaching those who will soon need to make

the same decision about their future country. If you were a child at this

moment, living in a country making the same choice, what would you

rather have?

Then agian, not every child is all for learning. Not every child can

sincerely say they are ready to get up in the morning, to go to school,

and to learn. To learn to help their country. So what are we really saying

here?

Now on the other hand, Military forces are also police funding. They

are not only here to help your country, but to protect it in all dangers

thrown at it. Not all country is just out looking for a fight. But for those

who are, wouldn't it be nice to be able to protect yourself agianst

these "hell-bound" fighters?

I'm sure I am speaking for many when I stated these past lines.

Please vote in the poll for your option, many will appriciate your advice

and might use it to benefit their own country.

I really cannot vote. I support both equally. Education is important but so is defense. Untill everyone in THE WORLD turns away from greed and even then there are too many unknown factors... There will always be a need for military strength for protection.

It's not just about education, but it's about WHAT we are teaching our children. In many cases, schools have a tendency to forget about teaching children about morals, ethics and they just teach them simple and technical skills like reading and mathematics. The trouble is, that too many people have no desire to DEBATE morals or ethics, they relie on what others tell them (in church!).
Maybe we should start thinking about what education is ment for: simply the skills to eventually be succesfull in jobs or opening our mind and learning by debating about the major issues in this world: what rights do individuals have and how can we secure these rights when living in largers communities. And that is not going to be easy.

I agree, but then agian, in the same schools where they learn mathmatics and science and such, we could have them learn combat. So that when the children grow, they will be the military. It would save much money. It would be like West Point, only every school would have it.

Greetings from The Nomadic Peoples of Nintu:

Education is more important than military spending. Military spending does not produce a return, but education does. A nation can survive and prosper without a military, but it cannot survive without educated citizens. It may survive, but that's all it will do. Support an educated population!

And yet another cluster of eager young minds falls prey too the foolhardy but all-too-common assumption that only two extremes which don't even necessarily conflict are viable options. Anyone ever heard of moderation? It's quite possible to play a hand of poker without your only options being "fold" and "all in."

The best course of action involving two extremes most often falls between. I agree with the speaker from Santin. Perhaps we should start mandating a course in philosophy for UN members?
