The Noninvolvement in Domestic Affairs Act

Purpose: To maintain the sovereignty and integrity of all member nations.

Article 1: All members will agree not to intervene in the domestic affairs of a nation unless the legitimate government of that nation expressly requests aide. Then and only then will they intervene until they are asked to leave.

Article 2: No member nation will threaten the use of force against another member nation with the intent of affecting domestic policies in said nation.

Article 3: The affirmation of all member nations rights to manage their own domestic affairs as they see fit.

Article 4: The recognition of the elected parliaments and the executive branches of the member nations as the ultimate authorities in the member nations. Not international bodies.

Article 5: To assist with direct military aide any member nation who is under duress to change domestic policy.

Article 6: To allow member nations to use force to put down internal problems which pose a significant threat to the nation or to neighboring nations. Violence must not be allowed to spill over borders and consume entire regions.

Article 7: To reaffirm that control over the armed forces of member nations belongs to the member nations. Not to the group as a whole.

Article 8: To assert that an attempt to dictate domestic policy to a member nation is tantamount to an attack, on the entire UN.

Problem number one: Complete lack of definition as to what constitutes a domestic affair. You may also wish to take a look at some previously passed NSUN resolutions, specifically "Rights and Duties of UN States," passed 2/24/2004.

Article 4: The recognition of the elected parliaments and the executive branches of the member nations as the ultimate authorities in the member nations. Not international bodies.

Meh. An international government should primarily deal with issues of international scope, but there are some widely accepted exceptions to that rule of thumb. Some basic limitations of government are neccessary -- freedom of speech is first and foremost among them. A state government should clearly have the power to override city governments on relevant matters, no? And a federal government should clearly override a state or provincial government, no? If that is not the case, the federal government is without power and meaningless -- the legislative powers of higher governments must be superior to those of the lower governments, else the higher government is irrelevant. Nations truly concerned about this will find it easy enough to resign their membership of the NSUN.

Article 5: To assist with direct military aide any member nation who is under duress to change domestic policy.

Requiring member nations to actively deploy their military forces seems like a fairly direct violation of national sovereignty to me. Ironic, isn't it?

Article 7: To reaffirm that control over the armed forces of member nations belongs to the member nations. Not to the group as a whole.

Especially ironic when compared to Article 5.

It is simply a "an attack on one is an attack on all". We will offer what help we can etc.

Domestic policies are things such as a nations provincial borders, a nations religious and/or racial laws. A nations economic laws etc.

In which case, this would count as a repeal of many existing UN resolutions which guarantee all citizens of UN nations freedom of religion and rights irrespective of race. Given your recent posturing, it seems obvious that this is an attempt by you to protect the sordid and illegal practises of your pathetic little regime from the international pounding it so richly deserves.

The UN is not an alliance where we defend each other, in fact, many UN countries are at war with each other. The UN is simply a supranational body that tries to ensure the sovereignity of nations and balance that with the need for world peace. All, of course, taking into account human rights.

If you want protection, go join a alliance like the GBODAD (sp?) or ADN or similar creations.

((OOC: This is very similar to a post I once made, though not as well-written...))
