Took the liberty of copying the proposal:

Rock and Roll funding

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights Strength: Significant Proposed by: Japanistanamaica
Description: Due to lack of funding in the area of arts in many nations I am proposing the increased funding for rock and roll music. It is very under appreciated and needs to get more exposure for such bands as Led Zeppelin, Journey, The Doors, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and many many more. In order for the music to get out and be heard and to have more great bands the funding for such music must be increased substantially.

Approvals: 1 (Rooneius)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 151 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Sat May 8 2004

Now then. Forgive me for doing this as I am not currently a UN member, just an interested observer but Hendrix and Morrison are dead. No matter how much funding you put in, they will still be dead. So are Lennon and Harris. Of course the Beatles broke up before they died in any case. Led Zepplin have also split up. Journey...I remain ignorant of Journey. Perhaps they do indeed need more exposure.

But the rest of these fine and decades old bands were all self funded, I'm sure. We are all for supporting artistic endeavour in AS but we wonder why funding should be allocated for bands that had pretty much split up before 1976....in fact we would fear that such a move could see a rterun to gratitious use of patchouli oil, cheap joss sticks, tie dye, use of the word 'chick' (although we notice that this practise is still alive) and the very dangerous notion that concept albums are a good idea.

Very worrying indeed.

Alright now see the thing is if u get this kind of music out there more then the people who may not normally listen to this will have a chance to. or somebody who could be the next jimi hendrix might not have enough money for a guitar, if we help to fund for things such as this then there shall be many more great bands. I am aware that half the people i mentioned are dead and split up but thats why we need to get the music out there because those guys are gone and we need to get out some more awesome music. A little funding couldnt hurt anyhow.

YES - - - ROCK ON!!!!
The bands you listed in your original message are some of the best bands in history (especially zeppelin), and i FULLY AGREE, that they need more publicity. The God Rock Society of Newton 2 fully supports this proposal and backs it with the fullest possible commitment.

I propose an amendment that would include "roots rock", R&B, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Bo Diddley.
et cetera.

Where would the funding come from for this?

Where would the funding come from for this?

I don't know much about economics, but if we take a small portion of the money made from each record sale (I know, I know, UN can't tax, but hear me out) we could use that to increase publicity, and then, once the bands are good and popular, radio stations and suc will publicize them without thye funding of an illegal UN tax, and we can pay back the record industry. Keep in mind I have no econ background, so sorry if that don't work.

That's actually pretty good, but I would like a funding clause added to the proposal.

Perhaps subsidizing record production and concerts to make these things available to all people. But dude, Journey? Come on, man.

We see no reason to single out rock and roll beyond any other form of music. And somehow I don't think the bands you mention need any more publicity.

Well, I just got done trying to pass a hopelessly doomed proposal to not recognize any UN funding for the arts, so I think you can guess what my opinion on this idea is.

thats a good idea for that clause. but is there any way possible for it to be included. if not maybe i could try that at a later time or something. thanks for the support guys
