We at Warmongaria are the same way. However we simply violate the UN regulations we do not agree with, and they'd rather have us allys and not enemies so we don't get kicked out..
However, most regulations passed are so vauge that they don't legally mean anything and we can still get away with murder.
As you debate and vote for issues on the UN, you will come to realize how silly most resolutions truely are.
I must compliment the delegates though, most of the really silly resolutions get screened out, however, the hippo resolution did come to vote and passed.

Surely you would try to figure that out before joining the UN?

You try to get other people to vote for proposals you like. The price you pay is that those other people can also vote for proposals you don't like. Through heated debate and lots of politics you try to get some advantage of it.

And that's fun!

If nothing else, the UN forum is a good place to judge who your allies are. How a nation responds to UN resolutions and implements them is a good yardstick for how trustworthy they'll be in other international relations. If someone submits a proposal saying 'I think all nations should be FORCED to make assault rifle ownership MANDATORY', chances are you want to advise your citizens not to go on holiday there.
