Thank You, from SDI's Author

Despite the failure of SDI to pass, I was both deeply impressed and grateful for the show of well reasoned, intelligent support from a number of NS UN members, from the proposal stage to the final resolution stage. Thank you very much for your efforts and your support. Please know that your assistance will not be forgotten and that I hope to be able to demonstrate similar support in your future endeavors.

Gratefully yours,

As a voice from the other side of the aisle, I'd like to end my part of this discussion as I began it--with well deserved praise for SCOS OJ. If it weren't for his unfailing dedication to answering questions and ensuring a fair and educational debate, this would have been yet another in a string of blind votes. In this case the UN did its job, and did it well. Congrats to all and a nod of appreciation for the representative who made it all possible.

Next time, I look forward to joining forces!

Though the PRoGG is relieved that this resolution has not passed, we too offer our praise to the proposer who has put a tremendous amount of effort in this proposal.

We hope this defeat will help us make a stronger proposal, backed even by the nations who opposed this plan. There have been contacts, and we are sure that something good will come out of this.

Regards,

Foreign Secretary of the People's Republic of Groot Gouda

As other people will note, you and a few others certainly did put into the proposal a lot of effort and time, even in debating with people like me (something I will remember! :) )

Even though I didn't support what you said, congratulations on all of your effort and I hope you will meet with better success next time on other proposals.

Sincerly.

I want to thank you for bring this proposal to the floor; not because it passed, but it did reaffirm my faith in the silent majority of voters - maybe they don't always blindly vote yes?

Win or lose, I liked the fact that the majority of the arguments for and against were well thought out and there were very little personal attacks and simple "this sucks" or "you suck" type of posts. Congratulations ALL who participated.

Thank you one and all for your kind words and show of support. I look forward to engaging all of you in hearty, heated debate in the future--hopefully next time, the larger lot of you will be on my side of the aisle.

*snort* There is an easy way to do that. Create a new UN committee, give it no funding mechanism, but say all nations must be members of it, and that it will protect third graders, raccoons, and ponies. It works best when you take a daily domestic issue and turn it into a resolution. People love it when you take their power of thought away.

Personally, I am disappointed that your last proposal didn't pass. But I'm optimistic that we can try again.

Don't forget to give it a nicey-nicey title that sounds completely harmess...

Just proving that the UN is a worthless organization, the Moonbase Initiative has a nice following of supporters. If people aren't willing to protect their own planet, why should we spend what would meet and exceed SDI spending to establish a MOON Base? Not to mention that there would be more of a problem defending the moon base from asteroids due to no atmosphere.

The nation of ClarkNovinia was proud to register its yea for this proposal. To the truly maniacal and absurd we shout a resounding "Hear hear!"

If it weren't for his unfailing dedication to answering questions and ensuring a fair and educational debate, this would have been yet another in a string of blind votes.

Indeed! Too bad they thought about it, eh?

It works best when you take a daily domestic issue and turn it into a resolution. People love it when you take their power of thought away.

Yet again the comrade from Mikitivity makes a salient point. I'm glad we're all agreed that future plans for global hegemony must be couched in even softer, more obfuscatory terms.

Anyone have plans to submit the trimmed-down research-based proposal? Seeing as how it would not require as large of a budget as the SDI proposal, more practical given current technological realities, and less military in nature, it would have a far greater chance of passing.

I would propose it, but a) I don't actually have 2 endorsements yet (most people in my region don't seem that active) and b) I wasn't the originator of the alternative proposal.

I plan to submit a DRAFT to this forum next week, but frankly, the server has been HORRIBLE this week. Myself and others are having a terrible time getting onto the NS server / forums.

I'm working on the preamble, and want to address hazard indices.

Morrison is dead, these days those are Posleen. :) And the saucer-riding ones while they look like scaley centaurs with lizard heads are called God Kings. "It's good to be the God."

PS: Nice work on the proposal (SDI), but I get tired of watching people use the UN as a whip hand to flog the rest of us with various individual agendas and ideologies. How about some effect free resolutions condemning Bob for being Your Uncle, or whatever in a gameplay sense like was done over Iraq recently IRL.
