Wording of 'Against Axis of Evil' resolution

16-04-2004, 01:05
Esteemed fellow United Nations members

The Government of Nainamo has undertaken research into the history of United Nations resolutions, and was surprised to read the wording of Resolution 1, in which it states that all United Nations members will undertake to increase military and defence spending to combat the Axis of Evil [OOC - does NS have an in game Axis of Evil?].

Nainamo is also concerned that this first resolution had such a low turnout, of three voting nations, and believe that for such an important resolution, it may be wise to debate the issue again, with the much wider membership that the UN now has.

Our government joined the United Nations in line with the belief that we were agreeing to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other such landmark treaties of United Nations history. We were shocked to find that the first resolution made in this organisation was to increase funding for the military industrial complex, which we thought was almost anathema to the UN.

Nainamo would like the thoughts of fellow members on this and related issues.

With our greatest esteem

While that would be nice. In any multi-governmental body like the UN where not all Nations are UN Members, you will run into conflicts. While alot of nations believe in disarmament, there are those who don't.

Together we can strive for a peaceful world. but until then, we have to be ready to defend our rights and freedoms. and while most battlefeilds will be in the negoiation table. the sad truth is that other battlefields will involve weapons.

While I do not consider myself warlike, I do know to keep the peace, sometimes, and I hope not often, war is necessary.

You might be interested to know that, speaking in NationStates terms, the resolution "Fight the Axis of Evil" was passed one day before the creation of the universe.

If you haven't yet read the "Before you make a proposal" sticky, I suggest you do so. Proposals to repeal passed resolutions are typically considered game mechanics proposals; proposals to alter the game's mechanics don't fall under the UN's jurisdiction.

You might be interested to know that, speaking in NationStates terms, the resolution "Fight the Axis of Evil" was passed one day before the creation of the universe.

And, moreover, it was proposed by the creator of said universe, Max Barry. Let's not go trying to repeal His commandments, shall we?

We acknowledge with great appreciation the replies that have been given on this issue. We will research the repealing process further, and understand but are disappointed that it is not under the United Nations' jurisdiction.

We did not have knowledge that the founding father of the United Nations, and the entire Nation States system, was the spark behind the resolution we have difficulty with. We defer to his judgement on this issue, and would note that in these troubled international times, Nainamo will do its part, where we feel it is warranted and best utilised.

On that note, we would again censure certain nations for perverting the widely accepted reasoning for the war on terror, both in taking the issue outside the United Nations framework, and also for advocating pre-emption as a military tactic.

[OOC - just how many people under arms and naval vessels and aircraft are in the NS world? Reading some of the stats for numbers in battle and naval exercise posts in International Incidents scares the bejasus out of me - in an IC sense of course!]

Actually, to my memory this has been raised, and is still quite valid as it was before,

The proposal at notice was simply a test to ensure smooth running of this U.N. voting system and such, and that a whole heck of emails were not going to plonk into the creators inbox and kill it when people go "iT dONT wORk YuuuZ nOObz!!!".

Also note that the vote alone that passed it should draw some curiousity, its was (Checks hard-copy) 2 to 1, in favour of passing. A little oddish, even ignoring the date it passed as raised by Santin.

Which raises a academic question for me, how many people were involved in Nation States birth, or was it M.B. with a few puppets? Just an academic question.

good question...

How many people are needed to give birth to a Nation?

humm, maybe one. (holding it and keeping it going is his/her problem but anyone can declare a Nation... I guess.)

1) I already am come to think of it, I was going to buy a lap-top half way of this year, but found out that particular account can't be touched with-out loss of interest and a $30 penalty, unless I do it at the end of the year when it rolls over the comp. interest, grrr.

2) I'm not sure, though I suspect the un-intentional hypocrisy should mean the entire universe should implode in 3... 2... 1... Oh, never-mind, the server will probbly crash soon enough, :)
