Freedom of Speech

I disagree. Once you start banning one group or stopping them from speaking or acting freely, you start down the road to your OWN VOICE being stopped.

Remember Pastor Neomeiller. Remember "He who is ignornant of history is doomed to repeat it."

Errr? Hello? Why is this here, I see "Freedom of Speech" as title and the first line is "I disagree," followed by anti-anti-free-speech commentary. With a quote from... who?

My question? Oh, well, its "huh?"

Freedom of speech is to be protected at all costs, so long as it does not hurt or condemn others of their rights.

To Enn: Ah. I should have realised  /

To Tuesday Heights: Hmmm, yet with some dark irony, Max Barry himself I think mentions some-where this is not a place of free-speech, instead its his own "Father Knows Best" State.

*** Pope Liam the Tripped Out consusmes one mouthfull of ayahuasca and hands his goblet to Bishop Leary... then stands***

Fellow UN members.... all rights come at the expense of another right. The trick is to find the best of the 2 possibilities and act according to logic. The freedom of speech BY IT'S VERY NATURE prohibits the freedom from being offended. You can examine all rights in this fashion.

i.e.

Freedom to own firearms prohibits the freedom from living in a gun free neighborhood

Freedom of religion prohibts the freedom FROM religion

Freedom of assembly prohibits the freedom from annoying leftie protesters

etc, etc, etc

The reason why freedom of speech trumps all "sensitivity" training (read as newspeak) ... is that with all arguments laid forth in an open matter... basic logic will defeat the bad argument. It is a tradition that freedom loving people have embraced for eons.

So three cheers for freedom... and give me my bloody goblet back!

** Bishop Leary hand Pope Liam the Goblet as requested***

"Freedom of religion prohibts the freedom FROM religion"

-Not true. Freedom of religion IS freedom from religion. If you give someone a list of every religion ever created to choose from, they still would never be truly free unless they could choose "none." "Freedom" is best defined as the ability to make choices, and true freedom gives someone the ability to choose "no answer" with regard to religion if they so desire.

Freedom from religion ... i.e. no religion allowed. Freedom of Religion means that religion is allowed and you would have to put up with people openly practicing religion.

This is odd. First off this seems to be an accidentally started topic, and now its topic has changed. Anyway, both freedom from religion and speech has its problems. Giving people too much freedom can cause all sorts of problems, such as a rebellion. But not giving them enough freedom can also cause a rebellion. Somehow this doesn't cause huge problems in the US, but the US isn't the greatest example of anything. So I think i just confused myself.

Ah, but is not rebellion in fact an act against oppression? In order to gain freedom?

I think you confused yourself in the fact that rebellion is an act to gain freedom by fighting against, (not always with violence), oppressive influences in order to increase the freedom enjoyed by a population or demographic of.

Where you do say freedom leads to rebellion, I think you are thinking rather it leads to anarchy.

We should all enjoy the benefit of freedom of speech, but never take it for granted because as easliy as it comes to talk, it can be taken away. It shoudnt be abused, rather put to good use.
