Please vote for this proposal to make it as a resolution; I think this would be good for everyone.

The Festival of Humanity

A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights Strength: Mild Proposed by: Krygillia

Description: NOTING the need for a worldwide event designed for the purpose of promoting peace among the peoples of the globe.

ALSO NOTING the need for awareness to be raised about human rights issues impacting the world today.

the United Nations hereby inagurates the Festival of Humanity, an event to be held every in at least one city in member countries on the second week of August every two years. The festival will feature speeches from human rights activists, distributions of "Medallions of Peace" to nominated humanitarians, booths from various peace organizations, musical performances, and other events to be determined by each country. The only rules, as this is a world peace event, are no playing of national anthems or ostentatious flag displays. The Festival is designed to be an event where people can learn about and discuss human rights issues in the world today, as well as just having fun.

Hundreds of festivals of this type take worldwide each year, is this suppose to be a UN-sponsored event, and how will this event be funded if the UN sponsors it?

We in Dunlend are very proud of our record with regards to promoting human rights and our actions to promote peace in our region of Western Europe. As such, we take issue with the banning of flag displays, since the "Free Eagle of Dunlend" stands for everything that such a resolution is trying to promote.

Funding would most likely fall on the shoulders of the nation hosting the festival. That way, you can throw as large or as small a party as you'd like, depending on how you feel about the kind of things being promoted in the event. Don't like freedom and human rights? Set your party budget to $1 and let the good times roll.

As for the flag comment, I do believe the resolution only blocks "ostentatious" displays of such nationalistic behaviour. You're allowed to display your flag, just not ten thousand of them in the middle with your national anthem blaring and propaganda brochures being dumped from above by airplanes.

Sincerely yours,
Daniel M. Hillaker

Very good. Assuming that Krygillia agrees with the assessment of Sophista, Dunlend withdraws its objection.

Sophista's analysis of the festival is 100% right. I'd like to apologize to Dunlend for the miscommunication about the flag rule.

I thought that letting each member country determine what goes on at the festival was the best idea since a FoH would go on in each member country, and it would be more practical to have each member country plan its own event than rely on a common pool from UN funds. That way, each country could concentrate on issues most important to it and its region, and be able to set the budget for the event.
