Major UN Crisis?

Greetings,
Fellow members of the United Nations...we have not met for a long time. For an eternity there has been no major resolution at vote. As the Zoogie People's UN nation/delegate, we are frustrated at this inaction.
As Delegate for The Zoogie Isles in whole, we have the power to approve of proposals. Going through the list of them, we are frustrated again at the lack of support for some, and the poor quality of others.
I therefore call to serious UN nations...to together, after much discussion and debate, formulate a Proposal to be voted on in this next UN session, and call upon Delegates to gather and review, if not participate, in these debates.
We do not believe this to be a major crisis, but want a good proposal up for vote soon...and wish to create one.
Thank you.
Incidentally, any serious UN nations, are all welcome to my region, The Zoogie Isles...telegram for the password.

Roycelandia supports this sentiment, but the problem is that even with "good" proposals, they still don't get enough votes.
I've given up submitting proposals, after I put in three VERY good ones (in the opinion of several people who Telegrammed me), all with correct spelling, proper "Style", and best of all, didn't infringe on anyone's rights.
None of them got more than 40 approvals.
In short, most people feel it isn't worth bothering anymore. I'm one of them. I'm seriousy considering resigning from the UN, just because it never does anything anyway.
Most importantly, NONE of the current Proposals are anywhere NEAR gathering a quorum (the closest is still 60 approvals off, and it's a very good proposal by SCOS OJ about SDI).
Maybe it's time the UN was revamped? It's regarded as a joke and ignored in RP by most people anyway, as far as I can tell.
It's a shame, because the RP oppurtunities of being in the UN are many, but they just aren't being used. And more nations AREN'T members than are, and you end up with fights over whether or not the UN resolutions apply to non-UN nations (I've seen at least two countries, not UN members, invaded for Breaching UN Resolutions).
On the other hand, it's good that they aren't doing anything... it means they aren't interfering with anyone's Government.
Totally agree
And I just wanted to thank you for the honorable mention :)
What if the UN splits? Into two factions. One, the "Old UN" and the new one, the Confederated Nations.
although whenever i try to talk about this idea my posts vanish. seems like a conspiracy to me.
Splitting the UN would require a major overhaul of the way the entire game works. As would changing the way proposals reach quorum.
While I understand your point of view, this simply won't happen. Currently, the mods are working towards the change of forums (phpBB to Jolt), and as such cannot change other things. After the changeover, there may be changes, but don't get your hopes up.
Well, the problem I have with most proposals is that they are more national intrests than international one. Ban on Guns? Right to Gay Marrage? Freedom of Choice? Those are all not international concerns, but national ones. I for one don't want the UN telling me how to control my citizens. UN concers should be on a planetary basis. Space exploration via International efforts, stemming the damage done to the environment by transporting alien life from one region to another, and so forth. The resolutions for the UN should be world encompasing and not nation alienating.
another problem I have is that some proposals are, IMHO, stupid. removing the ban on, or making it mandatory to take drugs? Hiring some gay biker dude to pork a nation's leader (I kid you not, someone submitted that one) or to get rid of armies. the latest was the Right to Choose which the author admitted it was more of an Affirmation than anything else.
My third problem is time. I don't have the time to go through each resolution to see if it's worth supporting. No one to blame on that one.
The UN needs to refocus it's purpose. Spitting won't solve the problem. it will only double it.

Yes, the UN is so full of garbage...splitting the UN into two would create more problems, so I would not recommend this. The only way is to fix the UN...
I believe the best way for the UN to reform is coordination on a very massive scale. As I am regional delegate (through my puppet Zoogiedom, creator of this thread) of my region, I have the power to approve resolutions...and with seventeen endorsements, the power to submit them.
What if we gathered the delegates and powerful UN nations who are concerned about UN reform, made a forum (i.e, invisionfree) to co-ordinate their efforts? They would draft proposals, edit and re-edit them time and time again until it is satisfactory...and submit the proposal for approval; and because this organization would be composed of a great number of UN delegates itself, it would gain approval quickly...and hopefully generate more quality resolutions more often for the UN.
The only problem would be getting this organization together and keeping it that way.

I come from a relatively small region, but would certain be willing to participate in such an endeavor. I personally pride myself in my editing skills.

I would really like to see proposals concerning evironmental issues. But I don't consider myself able to make a proposal like that since my English isn't perfect. I'm also quite new to the UN and still looking around how it goes. If anyone else would have a proposal about increasing the quality of the environment I would probably vote for it.
I agree, most resolutions/proposals are about national topics. But it seems to me that people do support them. Why don't you just follow the democratic principles of the UN? Although you do have the right to try to convince the other nations and delegates, I think you're wasting your time.
Besides, you say we need international topics. You must however realise that there simply aren't that many international issues to be found! So just to have something to do, people started proposing more national topics. I strongly support them in that!

A major problem is that there are simply too many nation delagates in the UN. A majority of them don't care, and aren't interested. Getting the 6% is increasingly difficult. How about if regions were combined (think continents) and the regional delagates elected continental delegates. The smaller number, as well as more focused and caring CD's could then debate and submit resolutions a lot easier and faster.

Ha Ha Ha Ha...that gay biker dude thing is hilarious. I laughed out loud when I saw that. Where can I find it?
I would like to see the UN split into 2 different factions (I would be in the rebel faction) because, personally, I think it would lead to an inevitable self imposed exile by nations or a resolution to abolish the United Nations. Now that's a resolution I could support!
Unfortunatly... no sorry FORTUNATLY, that proposal did not make it to vote. (thank god)
Hmmm. I just got an idea.... wait, let me flesh it out a little...
