Extension of Voting Franchise

This proposal simply addresses the issues of each of our states - the ageing populations that many of us now face is going to result in horrific consequences for our states...

The old will soon be able to control everything - this is not good. The pension pot will empty and there will be nothing for the youth of tomorrow.

I urge you, no... I urge you to vote in favour of the approval of this motion. If not for you, then your children.

The proposal as it stands is an extension to those aged 14 or above however in the future we may have to look to extend it even more.

This is my first proposal so any advice would be welcome (and endorsement would be more welcome... :D )

OK...advice?
Well, first off, a lot of nations here aren't democracies. And the UN has no right to force democracy upon them. So any proposal which affects the way voting is carried out should be worded to make clear that it only applies to democracies.

Second, drop the rhetoric:

I urge you, no... I urge you to vote in favour of the approval of this motion. If not for you, then your children.

A resolution should simply be a statement of what the UN law will be if the resolution passes. This forum is the place to urge people to vote for your proposal.

Third, and more important, we think that this is a matter that should be left to individual nations to decide. If the old "control everything" through weight of numbers, isn't that their right as the democratic majority? Mind, that's purely hypothetical, as we don't think that OAPs ever will form an outright majority.

Why not turn the old into soylant greene ?

Why not use their organic matter to fuel your space ships ?

The elderly have earned their right to live in peace. Please give them the courtosy of living up to the various promises government has given them.
