Delegates! Repeal the resolution "Fight the Axis of Evi

27-03-2004, 02:43
(Note - I am aware that technically resolutions may not be repealed and that proposing to do so is considered a breach of UN etiquette that may well result in my nation being expelled from the UN. However, this resolution is immoral and despite the "rules" I encourage the delegates to show support to repeal the "Fight the Axis of Evil" resolution.
Even were I not to be expelled I would be forced to resign my membership as my nation will not abide by it. I ask the question to the delegates - Will yours?)

Attention Delegates of the United Nations,

The Kants have submitted a proposal to the UN to have repealed the shortsighted and reactionary resolution "Fight the Axis of Evil". We seek your endorsement for this proposal.

We believe this resolution is an abomination for the reasons noted on the proposal. Breifly, they are -
1) Inadequate voting on this resolution is a perversion of Democracy (total final vote was 2-1!), and
2) Supports prolification of arms throughout all the member nations of the UN and the world.

If you would like to discuss this further we would look forward to your input.
Regards
The Kants

You know the game creator passed that resolution, right? I don't think you can get it repealed. No one will waste the time to do that.

That's a rather limited view. Should the members of the UN democratically decide that the resolution is unlawful and not in the combined interests of the world they will indeed repeal it.

You might want to read the Before you make a proposal (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77286) sticky.

When will you people learn, you MAY NOT REPEAL A RESOLUTION...

at least not at this time...

Greeting Santin

Thanks you for your advice. I have made a notation above on my original posting however, I'm aware of the "Before making a proposal sticky" and that resolutions "may not" be repealed.

Your nation represents your region within the UN as its delegate. Do you and your regions members support this resolutions intention. Do you find it moral? If not please support the proposal.

While we sympathise with your beliefs, there's nothing you can do about this, The Kants.

This is one of the resolutions that we regard as effectively meaningless and worth ignoring.

I'm beginning to think we may need a separate "Why You Can't Repeal 'Fight The Axis of Evil'" sticky. This is what, the 500th thread on the topic?

A generic "Why You Can't Repeal Resolutions" sounds like it's needed. I'll get onto it over the Easter break, if the opportunity presents itself.

I'm rather curious about something, actually... even though there's no repealing allowed, wouldn't drafting a revised and superceding resolution sidestep the tangled web of game mechanics?

If it passes, it still makes the changes accordingly. Nothing gets undone.

Resolutions cannot be repealed.
