antiponents

I propose that for every proponent of a resolution we designate an antiponent.

Together they could make up the components of a fine debate.

Like having a devils advocate for every proposal?

That would be just grand, as if having three Anti threads and a bottomless inbox of flames wasn't enough to deal with . . . :P

T.C. When you've got 3 anti-threads, then you know your pizzing them off. Your onto a good thing. All I got were people unable to understand mine, let alone pick at it. Lucky you!

Nobody wanted to be an antiponent for "Legally Human" :( They just didn't want to approve it ;)

They might have been worried about anthros. If you've ever met any of the dodgy ones in an IRC channel or chatroom, you would be very wary of giving them rights . . .

Hmmmm... point taken. Maybe I'll replace the "in-laws" exemption with the Anthro Exemption on the redraft. I, too, know the pain of exceeding character lengths :(

The risk with that, of course, it p*ssing off the Fantasy RP lobby. I have no idea how big they might be, but you could lose a thousand votes. It depends on your margin. Mine is looking quite small right now, a factor of 1.6.

Thwarted at every turn...

Oh well... I suppose most of those Anthros have in-laws, yeah?

Anyway, back on topic, your proposal certainly doesn't need anymore antiponents. I hope your margin widens soon.

Hehe, indeed, there are currently four threads arguing against it. I believe that since this is such a controversial Resolution, around 20,000 votes will be cast, as they were for some previous ones which caused a storm (in a dollhouse teacup). So far then, over a quarter of those who will vote have voted, and while their share of the vote has been increasing, I do not believe they have long to gain enough momentum.

Yeah, best of luck T.C. its is so a good proposal, opponents to it can take a running jump, its good and...

I am really having a bad night. I have no words, I think I left my brain on one of my proposals, so I'll go now, I probably not be back till its passed, vote of confidence there, that was,

My bandwidth is being eat'n up rapidly.

At least this would be a way for some of the quieter proposals to generate some discussion and interest.

As for the flames, hey, every celebrity knows that any publicity is good publicity.

I think you're assuming that many undecided voters read the forums let alone the debates. Look at the number of times the threads have been viewed. They don't come close to equalling the votes cast both for and against the proposals.

I think that with a few exceptions people are pretty skilled in making up their own minds (afterall we decide on national issues day after day) on how their nation would benefit best with its vote.

What the risk of your proposal is abuse in creating a strawman proponent or opponent. Take the ballast water proposal, though I was not the sponsor of the proposal, I certainly considered myself a proponent. The opponents to that resolution may have all felt they offered the most useful argument against the proposal as well. How would we decide where to draw the lines? It sounds like a moderation nightmare if done fairly.
