Tobacco Child Endangerment

21-03-2004, 03:21
i would like to ask for help in helping me ban the smoking of tobacco products around childern under certain ages. pease help and support the ban.

All people should have the right to live healthy and productive lives, but for some this is not the case and can be seen all around the world. Parents who smoke around their childern are putting the future of our world in grave danger. I propose we take the first step in what will be a long process of stoping the endangerment of childern by Tobacco related products. The resolution would be as follows

1. Parents who have childern between the age range of new born - 8 years of age should not be allowed to smoke around their childern by law.If the parents fail to do so this is child endangerment and the child should be taken away. The child can be returned when the parents are proven fit.

2. Smokers should not be allowed to smoke around people who can't walk or leave away from the toxic fumes. examples of this would be a bed redden person who is not capable of leaving from the fumes, A person who is paralyzed or unable to willfully from away from the smoker.

3. Smoking should not be allowed in at least 20 feet of school ground when school is in session or a school fuction is going on.

4. Ads from Tobacco related products should not be played on any network that is mostly viewed by childern who are between the ages of 10 years of age -15 years of age because childern are easily influenced by this age period.

We hope that members of the UN will join us in our cause to help protect the future of our world...the child, The time for us to rule on this is now...tomorrow may just be too late....

I think that the goverment´s priority is to protect the citizens and their lifes.

As we know tobacco does not improve the citizen health, and giving the children permission to get as much tobacco as they want won´t let them to grow healthy and won´t live enough to "vote" for the new goverment...

Think of this a bit before you take your position

I'm not sure exactly what you're hoping to accomplish with your trolling, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'd just like to point out this thread (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=132908) where another nation with only one post started things off with:

i would like to ask for help in helping me ban the smoking of tobacco products around childern under certain ages. pease help and support the ban.

That seems to me to look quite a bit like (read: exactly the same as) your post. Posting the same proposal a second time doesn't make it different.

Aim: Analysis of proposal.

Obervations: As follows.

i would like to ask for help in helping me ban the smoking of tobacco products around childern under certain ages. pease help and support the ban.

Why certain ages? Why children? How would you enforce this? Hello?

All people should have the right to live healthy and productive lives, but for some this is not the case and can be seen all around the world. Parents who smoke around their childern are putting the future of our world in grave danger. I propose we take the first step in what will be a long process of stoping the endangerment of childern by Tobacco related products. The resolution would be as follows

1) Errr, no, parents who smoke near children are being irresponsible, and most civilised nations already (On assumes, should they model current ideals of civilised societies) have laws to or measures in plaace to at least make parents aware of this.

2) In fact doctors usually make it clear these days, no smoking before, during, or after pregnancy.

1. Parents who have childern between the age range of new born - 8 years of age should not be allowed to smoke around their childern by law.If the parents fail to do so this is child endangerment and the child should be taken away. The child can be returned when the parents are proven fit.

1) Why 8, really, why not 9? Or 12? 15? 18? Why childeren of this specific age?

2) If your going to remove a child from a home becuase the parents smoke, your going to need a bloody big orphanage.

3) When parents a proven fit? What? By whom, the smoking police?

Pfffrt.

2. Smokers should not be allowed to smoke around people who can't walk or leave away from the toxic fumes. examples of this would be a bed redden person who is not capable of leaving from the fumes, A person who is paralyzed or unable to willfully from away from the smoker.

Okay... leave away, thats a new one...

1) Quite frankly, a person stuck in bed would most likely tell the smoker to fock off in such circumstances, and common sense should rule against doing so anyway. Especially if the person stuck in bed is ill, or in the privacy of their own home, where they would have the right to tell the smoker to fock off.

2) I'm not aware of their being an plague of people smoking around the paralysed, and you should find most people who are paralysed are in hospital or in care, usually places where smoking is a no on anyway...

3. Smoking should not be allowed in at least 20 feet of school ground when school is in session or a school fuction is going on.

School is in session? All rise!

1) Why 20 feet, not very far I would think, especially if the wind blows towards the school...

2) School function.... like schooling? Okay, fact, alot of teachers smoke. Fact two, alot do it outside as they should, and fact three, 20 feet is laughable, considering most law say only, "outside school boundries or not on premisis.". You might as well say, "go over there while I'm not looking and don't intend too, and make sure you do or else"...

4. Ads from Tobacco related products should not be played on any network that is mostly viewed by childern who are between the ages of 10 years of age -15 years of age because childern are easily influenced by this age period.

No, children are not influenced by this age period, they are influenced by the entire context they are in and I think you mean advertisements and their observations of such, amoung other things. Once again, many nations already have laws in place for this, and those that don't should not have too because you say so.

We hope that members of the UN will join us in our cause to help protect the future of our world...the child, The time for us to rule on this is now...tomorrow may just be too late....

Oh please, why don't you just scream shrilly "BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!", then we could ignore you completely and go back to work.

Conclusion:

This proposal is laughable, while it attempts to handle a possibly serious issue, it completely mis-manages it, with pointless rules with no way defined to enforce them, its vague and does not give reason/justification for its clauses.

Verdict:

We cannot back this proposal, but in the interests of protecting children from these foul fumes we would welcome a proposal to ban smoking in the UN building.

Some of our tribes smoke tobacco as part of a religious ritual.

Others simply indulge themselves for the usual reasons.

This is not an international issue, it is local. Let it be solved at a local level.

i have much repect for this argument. it is a religious event and to put a stop to it would go against freedom of religion.
however, i am of the opinion that smoking of any kind should be confined to certain areas and buildings. i wont bore you all with the old "studies have shown tobaco causes cancer" stuff. i will say however that i have an aunt who worked at a denny's in california. it was mostly a smoker's hang out. she dies last year from lung cancer never having touched a cigarette.
