Flaws in the UN

Resistencia

I have recently been done a great wrong. My nation, Resistencia, was ejected from the UN for no reason. According to the message I recieved, I was, "determined to be in breach of UN rules." They accused me of having multiple UN nations. These accusations are baseless. I have only one UN nation, Resistencia. My other two nations, Freemanville and Illionita are not UN members nor have I ever attempted to have them join the UN.

The more I thought about the situation, the more it frustrated me. I could not figure out what had caused this. On the message sent to me, it said that I should contact the game moderators to appeal the decision. I decided this would be the best way to clear my name and regain my UN membership. I sent the moderators a long message clearly detailing my situation and explaining my side of the story. I expected, at the very least, to recieve a message from them telling me that I could not rejoin. However, it has been five days and I still have not recieved any return message. This annoyed me greatly. After having been done such an injustice, the least they could do is respond to my message. Because of this lack of response, I was forced to place my appeal on a public forum so that I know the UN will hear my point.

This expulsion, has taken a lot of the fun out of NationStates. I figured, if you are punished for doing nothing wrong, what is the point of playing. Secondly, if I do continue to play, my role in the NationStates world will be greatly reduced. Inthis game, being in the UN gives you a huge advantage in world politics. While I may not neccesarily agree with this, I felt it was important for me to have this advantage. Now, it has been wrongly taken away from me. When I kindly asked for a reason, I was ignored. Is this justice? What have I done to deserve this? All I asked for was an explanation.

Hopefully, my appeal on this forum will bring the UN's attention to me. This way, I can retake my place in the UN as well as clear my name. Not only am I out of the UN, but I am now branded as cheater. This alone is damaging. Two days ago, while involved in an argument with another region, my situation was used aginst my region. They claimed that I was proof that my region was full of cheaters. I cannot be angered by them for saying this, as I would do the same thing. If I see another region expelled from the UN I would assume they were cheaters. My problem, is with the UN who has made me seem like a cheater when I am really not.

I must apologize for taking up space on a public forum just to bring up my own case. However, it is most important that this problem be brought into the eyes ofthe whole NationStates world. I am sure there have been many others wronged in the same way as I was. I truly hope, this is will bring attention to the faults in the UN system.

You have my sympathy, because I would personally hate to be ejected from the UN. However, we cannot do anything for you.

To be frank, I don't know that what you say is true. Granted, the only reason I'm replying at all is that you have demonstrated a certain sense of credibility due to the fact that you can use the english language appropriately, instead of abusing it. Despite that fact, I don't know enough about the game system to make an argument in your favor even if I could do so in good conscience.

I suggest waiting. I'm sure you know that the Mods are volunteers (as I understand it), and have other obligations. If I were in your position, I would (anxiously, obviously) wait a fortnight before taking my plight to a public forum. It's better for everyone if these problems can be resolved in private.

Try putting a thread up in the moderation forum. In the past (with past nations) I have requested the deletion of a nation spamming my regional HQ, but, to my knowledge it never happened despite the proof. I also never got a reply. Mods do their best. Even though your problem is big, they might have priorities.

We just hang up flaw paper strips.
Catches them flaws like nuthin.

................................................

If you post from a friend's computer and he has a UN nation too, you can both get listed as "multis".

So should the rules say one UN nation per computer instead of person???

PING!

Actually Ukroatia, I have a vague feeling there *is* a warning about this little fact some where, don't ask me where though, I've a feeling its in a sticky thread of some sort, but, eh, I've not been there for so long I've no exact detail, still, you've made a good point. Which, I hope, newbies may take into account.

I certainly think so. Would clear up a lot of confusion.

I think they should find other ways to decide wheither someone has more then one UN nation.... IP addresses are bad. How do they know that there isnt a number of family members playing this? Each member has the same IP as anyother member...

IP addresses aren't the be-all and end-all of what we use.

No, I doubt they are, and might I add, I've never seen a definitive list of the security measures used to prevent diddling with the rules. No wonder, I suppose its a case of "don't know, can't counter?"

To a vast extent, I'd agree with you Komokom. Just as if you build a better mousetrap, nature goes and builds a more intelligent mouse (until you make him dance on a hotplate...but I digress...), if we went around telling everyone how we established if they were breaking the rules then we wouldn't be able to use those methods for too much longer.

until you make him dance on a hotplate

Yeah, but then you'd get a mouse that would resist the hotplate ;)

But wheres the fun it that? , But I too digress...

I thought as much, it makes sense after all, and realy, its probably bad enough dealing with the harmlessly ignorant,

(Pauses to wait for one "Donald Trump" individual to bolt in and ridicule my pet term for the newbies... )

Let alone the aggressively tinkering...

Q: I wasn't cheating! I only have one UN member nation. Your game got it wrong.
A: This is possible, but unlikely. The game uses four different methods to detect if the same person is operating multiple UN members. These methods include IP address tracking and login pattern detection. If your nation was deleted, the game gathered very strong evidence that it was being operated from the same location as other UN members on multiple occasions.

Q: My friends operate those other UN member nations. We all share the same computer.
A: I'm sorry if that's the case. There is no way for the game to tell how many people are on the other end of a computer. For this reason, breaches of UN rules involving only two members are usually punished with expulsion, not deletion.

However, please note this important point: we cannot take your word on how many people are really behind your computer. This is not because you are untrustworthy, it's simply that otherwise there is no way to enforce the UN rules.

Q: But that's not fair!
A: True, and again, I'm sorry if you and your friends have been punished unjustly. However, this is the closest we can come to fair. If we accepted people's explanations that they were using a public computer with their friends, we would have to let people create as many UN nations as they like. This would destroy the whole point of the UN.

The line has to be drawn somewhere, and thus, fair or not, the rule must stand.

I thank you for your suggestions. I was in fact aware of the warning about using another computer. However, I was told by several people that once you have used your nation from one computer over a long period of time, you can use another once or twice because your IP address is already known to the mods. In addition, my friend was not expelled from the UN as a multi which, while I was happy for him, made me wonder where the mods got their reason for booting me. I understand that the mods are volunteers. I apologize for going on a sort of tirade. At the time, I was very upset at what had happened and felt I had been done a great wrong. Though I still believe this, I have calmed down and will continue to argue my case in a civilsed manner.

Thank-you,

Was it spelt incorrectly? No, don't tell me, my head hurts already. Shut up. Leave me alone.
