Oh come on guys!!!!!!!
Surely to goodness no nation worth its salt doesn't want an impartial organization set up to promote and legislate for Free Trade
This organization HAS NO LEGAL POWERS OVER YOU it is a regulatory body. The International Free Trade Organization proposal is a satisfactory one to help negiotiations between nations, to investigate trade barriers when summoned by at least one nation. It cannot take a nation to task for using restrictive trade means, just be there as a sounding board -WHAT HARM CAN IT DO?
Any regional delegates out there Page 9 of the UN proposals listings would greatly help in bringing this organization into effect

We are opposed to free trade; indeed, as provisional members of the CACE we are committed against it. Believing as we do that free trade renders the poor defenceless against the ravages of economic exploitation, we reserve the right to regulate trade in any way we see fit.

Wait. So it's going to legislate, but it has no legal powers? Come again?
Okay, a quick perusal of the proposal suggests that it's intended solely for mediation and has no actual powers. Without a definition of what constitutes 'unfair' in 'unfair trade barrier' this is somewhat meaningless; moreover, we feel that once in place such an organisation could easily have its powers gradually strengthened and effectively impose free trade by the back door.

IFTO has no legal powers, that will be enshrined.
Encouragement of Free Trade is the issue.
Its is an intermediary organization to provide mediation in any trade dispute.
It cannot legislate over anyone, it cannot impose its free trade will. It can only enter a dispute when requested to do so by a member state. It can provide advice NOTHING MORE.
Trade Barriers will not become illegal.
This is not a method to introduce FREE TRADE by the back door, it is body that can only monitor world trade and trade restrictions and advise member nations (at their request) and act as a consiliatory service.
IFTO will not be controlled by any government

Fair trade, not free trade.
Free Trade is Fair Trade.
And if not then it is for the nations of the world to utilize this proposed organization effectively in order to achieve that objective.
Fair Trade is obviously an objective. This organization is here to negiotiate in trade dispute.

We fear such an organization may become corrupt and could be swindled into making decisions in a less than partial manner.
We feel it's too risky.
Ping!
Was this not the proposal that made worryingly vague comments with economical thingies like, errr, taxes?
Clarify please, I may be thinking of yet another thread...

- The Rep of Komokom.
Two previous comments are actually very funny:
5- Organization will be run in a confederate manner, overseen by the UNITED NATIONS!!!!!!!! If you fear it will become corrupt - then your nation or region is obviously insecure and there's nothing I can do about that to alleviate your concerns
6 - Import Taxes or tarriffs are a common method of blocking free trade. The Organization doesn't have any means of imposing anything on anybody. I suggest you read the proposal in its entirity.

Who are you trying to protect with your "fair trade"? Poor little weak nations ripe for exploitation? Ha!
The Holy Empire of Grand Hobgoblonia has a current population of approximately 7 million hobgoblins with a small minority of hard working humans, in the last quarterly report our economic strength grew from the UN rating of "Strong" to "Very Strong."
Is Grand Hobgoblonia, population 7 million, one of these weak poor little nations ripe for exploitation? Maybe so! With market policies that have barred artificial protection of Grand Hobgoblonia's industries, the government has in fact encouraged Grand Hobgoblonia's industries to become stronger on their own initiative.
If a weak nation is overwhelmed by foreign markets, it is because it has chosen to be weak.
Assertively,
