End to Political Bias
A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy Strength: Strong Proposed by: Pessimisticia
Description: It has been noticed that many political theories, particularly Communism, and especially any Dictorial form of government, have come under fire from proposals attempting to outlaw their form of government from the UN.

Therefore, let it be resolved that the UN may make no resolution abridging the right of any NationState to follow any political ideal it wants, and furthermore that political theories are just that, theories; and that no UN nation may declare any Nations of any chosen political stance by a derogatory term pertaining to said political stance.

Approvals: 5 (Pessimisticia, Froke, JamBandLand, Hilary Duffistan, NewTexas)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 145 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Wed Mar 10 2004

Is that great or what? It's like those "Furtherment of Dictatorship" proposals, only better because it solves the problems of any particular theory coming under attack, not just Dictorial ones.

Words of praise, requests for marriage, and suggestions welcome.

although we agree with the idea that no member state or political body should enforce it's political beliefs on another, indeed the UN was founded to develop friendly relations among nations based on respect - so this proposal would enforce that.

However, it is the view of this member states that the furtherment of human rights and personal liberties is further promoted by encouraging democracy within member states, and would not consider supporting this resolution if this proposal was seen as a first step towards effectively removing the ability for the UN to encourage steps towards democracy within member states.

Uh, the point of the UN is to create proposals that the writer thinks will make NationStates a better place (More like the way they want it to be). It doesn't necessarily promote any single political ideal, and the only thing Democratic about it is the majority voting on the resolutions themselves.

The writers' ideals are clearly reflected in what they believe will make the world a better place. We oppose this proposal.

Palinu is a tad perplexed how one can suggest that a resolution to end political bias can be "A resolution to increase democratic freedoms" or "Category: The Furtherment of Democracy", since democracy itself is a political bias.

This does not mean we are against democracy, mind, we are simply wondering about the wording.

Tell me what category it fits under better, then. The political stability, "Decreasing civil liberties at the expense of political stability" seemed inappropriate, as did Social Justice.

And yeah, Global Market. Why, it's Liberal Fascist Commie Jews like me we have to thank for everything that's wrong with the world, and of course I can only be acting with an evil, pro-choice agenda in mind.

Would not this effectively end any possibility of the UN doing anything?
As new members of that organisation, we fully expected that majority decisions taken by that body would be binding on member nations.

Uh, no. The UN is still allowed to make any other decisions, it's ones threatening the right of a nation to be whatever political stance it wants that becomes outlawed. Effectively, it takes care of all those "End Communism/Monarchism/Dictatorship/Fascist/etc." proposals.
