Brighten Our Night Sky

A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental

Industry Affected: Automobile Manufacturing

Proposed by: Swerveland

Description: For far too long, smog and other greenhouse gases have polluted, poisoned, and decimated our beautiful sky. The United Socialist States of Swerveland proposes that all automobiles fueled by petroleum products are to be hearby banned and be immediately replaced by healthier means.

Think of the children. Support this resolution for the sake of our future.

The Empire of Alrindor will not approve this resolution. Banning all greenhouse gas emissions is unreasonable. Although tightened restrictions on emissions could be feasible, completely banning all vehicles will do nothing but harm to the economy. If hydroelectric cars are the topic being referred to that will replace current automobiles, then more research needs to be done and mass production needs to begin. Until then, Alrindor vehemently opposes this resolution.

So once again...the world looks to turn its back on our troubles instead of facing our troubles. If the world united and took a stand, a solution would present itself quickly. Complacency is the biggest problem our world faces, and our children are going to pay for our laziness.

A resolution to ban greenhouse gases outright is unworkable. Although the DSH applauds the sentiment, it would be unworkable to simply ban such gases without a period of grace. The DSH therefore would vote against this resolution in it's present incarnation

Moreover, the DSH would hope that Swerveland could contribute suitable technology to nations less fortunate than themselves in order to precipitate such a resolution? We are highly doubtable that Swerveland could manage to fund this.

Well as a member of the UN, you should know that a resolution was passed nearly 7 months ago that was supposed to have every nation start developing hydrogen powered cars. It's obvious that most nations in the UN have not done what the resolution asked for. Drastic action is required if we are to stop this problem.

Respectfully,
Our Lord Swerve

PING !

* The Rep of Komokom picks up the little ticker-tape print off from the antique device on his desk and says...

"Actually, advanced research indicates there is already an issue in N.S. which covers banning - or - not of cars, which means there is already a perfectly valid reason to shoot this down, the persuasive power of precedent. Far as nations been able to make their own decisions I would think.

* Another print off,

Oh, and it says, funnily enough, this was one of my arguments during the entire euthanasia thing before, but could not get the proposal deleted due to it already being on the floor. Funny that, it should mean...

* Ticker tape machine grinds to a halt,

"You can work this one out for yourselves... "

you should know that a resolution was passed nearly 7 months ago that was supposed to have every nation start developing hydrogen powered cars.

Yes, we are aware of that, but thank you for reminding other nations. However, some nations have only been part of the UN for a few days/weeks/months and may not enjoy the time to develop the technology that other nations have developed, which is why we asked if youselves could contribute technology, or the resolution must be adjusted to coherce member states to share technology in this field to promote your endeavour, which would mean that larger member states might be opposed to the proposal.

I don't think the proposal is workable, and I can't see it establishing quorum.
