Saving Our Children
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security Strength: Strong Proposed by: Swerveland

Description: For far too long our children have grown up in a world where they can't even go to the gas station without worrying about being hurt by a stranger. That is why Our Lord Swerve is proposing a resolution that'll take back our streets. Crime is all but forgotten in the United Socialist States of Swerveland. This resolution will not only benefit our police, but also goes as far as expand the size of the national guard for greater security. Do yourselfs and your family a favor...support this resolution and give your grandchildren the security they deserve.

If you support your children's well-being...get over and support this proposal so the masses can vote for it.

No... none of your business or the UN's. It is an infringement upon the rights and priviledges of a UN member. The charter grants sovereignty to the member states on defense and policing.

Greater security within one's nation leads to greater security throughout the UN and the rest of the world. Turning your back on the citizens that walk through your streets is turning your back on the rest of civilization.

Has this been placed as an official propsal, or is it in draft form?

It's an official proposal. It was posted earlier tonight.

Unfortunately, Alrindor will not be approving this proposal. Although the idea of it is strong, it is lacking the movement needed to propose an actual action. Perhaps it can be rewritten in the future with further information as to the actions taken.

Then if it violates the charter it should be smacked with a moderators flaming line of code of justice, into the nether regions of cyber... stuff.

Sorry, but if it does, then it should.

The Dominion of Subaicio is willing to support this proposal. Military and policing are high priority in Subaicio, and so any increase will be supported as long as it is reasonable

if you really wanted to save children you'd ban prostleitizing

not make more big holes in the ground full of dead ones

(another simple fact frequently misconstrued
and often outright lied about:

the vast majority of perps ARE NOT straingers to their victums!

thank 'family values' for keeping them vulnerable!)

After careful review, the Emperor has concluded that this proposal does absolutely NOTHING. It states that the purpose of the proposal is to "take back the streets", "benefit our police", and "expand the size of the national guard", but says nothing about how to accomplish any of these things. It may as well say "Crime is bad. Let's do something about it." For this reason, the Emperor cannot support this proposal.

Why do you send your children to be gassed at a 'gas station'?
What is this gas you use?
Carbon Dioxide, Cyanide, Hydrogen Sulphide, Methane???
Do the children go willingly, if so how do you manage this?
What effects does it have, should other nations follow suit, does it affect human rights?

One of the main problems societies suffer with regards to child safety is that the media and other agencies exaggerate the dangers of those who prey on children. Yes, there are people who are ill and a danger to children but they are not lurking in every shadow preparing to pounce on an unsuspecting child. Calamnaria is right: the majority of child abuse takes place within the home.

There are numerous consequences of fomenting public hysteria on this issue: the victimisation of guilty and innocent, a reduction of children's ability to roam, the threat of mob rule, vigilantism, etc.

At any rate, in my view this is not even a subject the UN should be legislating on.
