The role of regional UN Delegates

From the II Thread: "Declaration of War on Dimmimar"

Our intelligence analysts have discovered a plot to launch a second wave of offensives against the nation of Dimmimar. Shinoxia and an unknown number of other Antarctic nations, have already expressed their willingness to participate in this renewed attacks despite efforts towards peace. We cannot and WILL not stand idly by while war is continually waged in our backyards. I wish to speak with the representatives of Antarctica to discuss peace terms, the nations of West Pacific will not tolerate the risk of war being spilled across their own borders. Let us stop this conflict, before it evolves into a full-scale regional war. I will be awaiting your replies. If you haven't been following our regional affairs, I have been appointed the UN regional delegate, I now speak on behalf of the great nations of West Pacific.

I am gravely concerned at the behaviour of West Pacific's UN Delegate Eastern Democracies who in the last sentence practically proclaimed himself leader of a region where only a handful of nations are UN members out of 132 states.

I would ask other UN nations if I am correct in believing that a region's UN Delegate is not the ruler of that region?

What are the responsibilites of a UN Delegate. So far West Pacific's has been to:
1. Rule over us
2. Tell us how to run our domestic affairs
3. Threaten to make us enter a war most do not want
4. Decide whether to support resolutions without consulting regional UN members first. Only when this was exposed did the UN Delegate ask.

How does Eastern democracies speak on behalf of West Pacific when more than 70% of the nations are non UN members? His aggression towards other states is starting to tick them off. I am almost afraid he is deliberately trying to incite a war.

I am also concerned because our UN Delegate is harbouring a terrorist state and is dragging us into a war which it is being claimed he is provoking.

What can be done? We do not want war!

UN Ambassador for Benicius.

It depends on the policies and precedents of your regional government. Some regions grant wider powers to their regional Delegate than others.

There have been no additional powers conferred upon our region's UN delegate by West Pacific members. That much I do know.

I don't see a delegate as a regional leaders - instead I see that delegate as having a responsibilty towards that regions members to work on bring about changes in the UN which are suggested by afformentioned members, rather than just their own agenda.

I can't see how any delegate could claim to be a dictator over a region anyway - they are ultimately voted for, and member states can easily take away that vote....personally If a delegate I had endorsed was getting too big for their boots, I'd withdraw my endorsement, and encourage other members within my region to do the same.

Hirota's point is a very valid one. If a Delegate is advocating unpopular policies, there is nothing to prevent a nation or nations from removing their endorsements from the Delegate - or even running against said Delegate.
In an extreme case, a nation might want to consider entering "voluntary exile" by moving to a different region.

A delegate has the power to rule the region, it depends on whether he/she abuses that power. I just consider myself to be a representative of my region.

Not in my region. The only one who owns that power (Mods Aside) is me.

The UN Beast no longer wishes to remain in the background... its lackeys and henchmen yearn to seize direct control of the regions. It is imperative that the freedom-loving nations... join the UN and sweep out the One-Worlders. By remaining out of the UN, nations have given those who will oppress them... the power to do so.

While a UN delegate is selected by their region, i dont think they rulke the region at all. Instead they carry a duty to educate the people of there region in places that one or another may need help in. I know that my UN Delegate, Bloodmoon-Hyperion, has helped me greatly even though i have only been here for a short time. I have also found that his knowledge in the game shows a lot of his character. He does not rule us but meerly show us the way. All my to Bloodmoon for their time they have put aside to help others like myself. Full credit to them!!!!!!

I feel it is a Delegates job to take a poll of all nations of the region to formulate a consise and knowledgefull opion and also decion on events, policies, and anything that will affect an entire region, especaily a region of such size at West Pacific.

I agree with those who encourage endorsements be withdrawn. If this turkey has no sense of responsibility, then he has no business representing you.

Simply find someone with a more moderate view of politics, endorse him, then start a campaign to get more endorsements for him. Yourself possibly?

Put some work into it, and greet each and every new arrival, with a telegram outlining the problem as you see it. New arrivals tend to accept the status quo, after all, cause they DON"T know what is going on. Help them, then you may actually qualify as a delegate.
