Fellow delegates,

I ask you, as Regional Representative of the Zhaucauozian Friendship, as support the resolution that has been proposed by the Empire of Beaumontia.

The resolution concerns the development and use of genetically modified food.

Genetic modification is an issue that affects us all whether or not our nations support genetic modification or not.

I ask all delegates to endorse the proposal so that this solution to a global issue can be voted on by those whom this issue will affect.

Thank you.

Description: UN nations who support this resolution accept the statements given to be true and that all UN nations are to be legally bound to abide by the guidelines set out in this resolution.

The UN believes that:

1. Genetic modification has the potential to benefit all of mankind.

2. Genetic modification is an issue that is relevant to the whole world.

3. Irresponsible use of genetic modification has the potential to cause long-term environmental damage.

4. The long-term impact of GM produce entering the food chain is important in determining the safety of GM food.

5. The general public are sceptical about genetic modification and do not believe it to be a force for good.

The UN resolves that the following guidelines be enshrined in law:

1. Each nation retains the right to decide whether or not to allow the production and development of GM produce.

1a. Nations can ban the import of goods from abroad that contain GM substances regardless of free trade agreements.

2. Products for sale containing GM ingredients must be properly labelled to identify the presence and nature of the modification.

3. All crops must be grown in isolation to protect conventional and organically grown produce.

4. A UN envrionmental task force, designed to oversee and carry out studies into the safety and impact of genetic modification, is to be set up to enforce these rules.

5. GM foods that have been produced in conditions that satisfy these guidelines are allowed to label their goods as "UN Satisfied". This is to try and improve consumer confidence.

Amendments to this resolution or additional statements and guildelines may be voted into law in the future as new information and research comes to light.
