Tired of all the Liberal Influence?

18-02-2004, 05:29
Good evening,
Are you tired of the multitude of liberal influence within the UN as of late? Do you hate some of the new laws proposed, but feel that your objections won't matter because you're swamped with others who feel that nudity should be compulsory, or that the burning of fossil fuels should be punished by death?

My friend, I suggest you examine the "Conservative-Liberal Sects" proposal by yours truly. If you agree with the idea, I implore you to endorse it.

Rightist nations deserve an actual say!

On a point of order, the proposal seeks to fundamentally alter the structure of the UN. I order that the Clerk of Record remove it from the queue forthwith.

OOC: Game mechanics proposals, especially when advertised like this, are one of the things I love seeing. Such a clear-cut warn-and-delete case.

you say liberal like its a bad thing? You have a problem with open minded people who are willing to try using new solutions on old problems and are free from bigotry?

Dear Prussian Nations,

Quite frankly, when a national representative is proposing measures like "nudity should be compulsory, or that the burning of fossil fuels should be punished by death" then that national representative is an idiot and is clearing just filling the U.N. with crap which will usually be ignored, deleted, or left to die by itself in the silence of no interest.

Oh yeah, I did not read your proposal, I just saw a moderator mention game mechanics issues in the next post and any thought of wasting time on its review was tuned out by thr droning in my mind of "Game Mechanics Proposals Are Dumb Dumb Dumb, And Repeat".

The Rep of Komokom.

With all respect for the representitive from the Prussian Nations. we must politely urge them to shut up before they are made to look stupid.

If "looking stupid" is any relation to "having the proposal duly deleted", then that train has already sailed.

On a minor note, as one of the oldest nations, we'd like to point out that the NS UN has always had a liberal bent. Voting against the bill of No rights, was to our minds the high point of this, however we of Nebbyland do enjoy pointing out that every state in the NS UN has legalised gay marriage and equal rights for homosexuals.

OOC Oh and please remember that the mods enjoy deleting proposals, so making game mechanics changing ones makes them happy.

Cheer up your mod today submit a game mechanic changing proposal.

Hey, good plan. I think I'll submit a proposal stripping Enodia of his right to delete game mechanics proposals...that should give our beloved mod something to chuckle over for the couple of seconds it takes to hit "delete"...

Personally, I like having a bastion of liberal power. It lets me laugh at the conservatives. After all, it's all of their protest resignations that have let liberals gain power- it's entirely their fault.

PRUSSIAN NATIONS: "nudity should be compulsory, or that the burning of fossil fuels should be punished by death?"

In all seriousness, how could you possibly regard these as 'liberal' measures?

Do try to engage brain, dear chap.

They're liberal, to an extent, but only in a neoliberal sense. Sort of how the Bush administration's policies aren't anything remotely resembling traditional conservativism, but rather neoconservativism.

I guess I was trying to point out that enforced liberalism isn't really liberal. I don't actually agree that these are neoliberal - that's a term I'd apply more to economic liberalism.

Ah...it's all semantics.

Best wishes

Fellow members of the UN.

It hs been said that there is a bias towards liberal policies. I argue that if this is true, then it is because we as nations are predominantly liberal in nature.

If nations do not wish to abide by the democratic system of the UN I suggest they leave and form their own 'coalition of the moral' or whatever the religious right would like to call it.

OOC:

As someone from the east side of the atlantic I look on in amusement at how the religous right in America seem so aggressive against what they perceive as an invasion of liberals.

Yet through my observations of the various US news networks (we can watch them over here courtesy of that bastion of the right Rupert Murdoch's SKY network) I notice an intense bias towards the right.

The strongest example of liberal tv I can think of is BBC America, and that's produced over here anyway. :-p

We are liberal, but wish the UN proposals would stick to international issues. We don't support proposals just because we agree with the premise. We support when we believe they are appropriate in the context of the UN, and serve for the betterment of all the member nations.

Democratisation of the UN
or, the Keeping East Hackney Amused While At Work Proposal

A resolution to improve human rights

Concerned that the UN is ruled by Enodia, an unelected totalitarian despot with unchallenged powers of life or death over UN proposals, resolutions and, indeed, delegates;
Pleased to discover that Enodia has that rarest of beasts, a sense of humour;
Noting that the ruler of East Hackney is having a particularly boring day at work;
It therefore following that we may as well do this as anything else;

The UN hereby rules that Enodia is stripped of all powers relating to the moderation of the UN.
Furthermore, he shall be made to wear a dunce's hat (green metallic, with pink tassels) and made to stand in the corner while the assembled UN delegates point at him and laugh.
Control of the UN shall pass to a democratically elected People's Soviet as soon as elections are viable. In the interim, control shall pass to the free and not-at-all power-mad peoples of East Hackney, where it shall remain until it is prised from our cold, dead hands.

I AM OUTRAGED AND HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THOSE OF A QUIET DISPOSITION! It is surely NOT in the UN's power to legislate in the matter of allocating green metallic hats with pink tassels to individual members, thereby denying them their sovereign right to choose their head dress! And who are you to decide whether or not I shall laugh at said member?!If this DESPICABLE resolution comes to pass, I'll, I'll, I'll RESIGN! YEAH, THAT'LL SHOW YOU ALL! HA!!! WHAT'S MORE I'LL LOSE, ALL CAPPACITY TO CONTROLL MY EXCLAMATION MARKS GRAMMER AND SPELING!!!!!!!

Yeah... work's pretty dull for me, too.

*sigh*
As any mature nation recognises, there are matters of international significance in which the will of the UN must overrule purely national considerations.
We feel that to deny the UN its right to allocate Enodia's headgear, or to allow states to make individual decisions on whether to mock or not to mock Enodia, would grievously undermine the purpose of this resolution, which is to make Enodia look as foolish as possible and thus keep us amused. Since we are shortly - pending the passing of this resolution - to become supreme ruler of the UN, this must be considered as being in the interests of all Nation States.
We hope this addresses your concerns.

Bah, there's no point arguing with people in the UN. It's all just a conspiracy of immoral permissive liberal socialist commie pinko treehugging hippy, er, genital-obsessed teenagers (thanks Gigglealia).

OK - point made, I feel. Swift half in the Strangers' Bar?

If you ask us, we're rather tired of the people voting for proposals without bothering to look deeply into what its actually about, and the discussions made before, and/or during the voting.

Liberalism is fine, bah, we promote it economically, politically and socially in our nation. We draw the line when so-called "liberal" laws infringe upon the rights of individual organisations to do as they wish provided they respect the rights of others.

Oh I'm around. In fact, if the forums would allow me in more often then I'd be here more often. It's 40-something degrees celsius right now (which is more than 100 in fahrenheit, I'm told). Thankfully there's aircon near the computers, because otherwise we'd have Fried Moderator for dinner.
