UN too powerful?
The UN is begining, in my opinion, to start infringing on the rights of other nations to govern their own nation as they please.
I personally belive that the UN should not be allowed to tell a nation how to govern itself so long as they are not hurting their own people directly or the people of other nations.
What says you all?
Hi, I'm John Marat, and I sensed your aura and came over to bask in its glow, ok? Now, let me see if I'm really connecting with you. What you seem to be saying is, the UN should exist, but that it shouldn't actually do anything. Or are you? *ha ha* You see my friend, the Un isn't a monster-- it doesn't stand over us threatening to crush us underfoot, no its more of a terrible, disfiguring science experiment that has gone really really wrong. It's ugly, its smelly, it's loud and none of us really want it around...
No wait that metaphor went wrong. Okay, no my point is, its not the UN that interferes, its other countries that agree to meddle in each other's affairs until an issue comes up that one of them doesn't like. When that happens it becomes a 'failure of the UN'. Okay? Okay, I hope that our little seesion here really helped.
You've been great, I've been John Marat, thanks for listening. ^_^
UN too powerful? Are you serious? In my nation, we have milkmen with more political power than the UN has. It has no enforcing power, and even the ministry of compliance can be over-ridden by government officials in internal issues. If anything, the UN needs more power.

How about you make a proposal? Maybe then the UN would actually vote NO on something

You might want to re-read the United Nations FAQ, located at http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi I shall quote the relevant passage for your convenience.
So I'm a UN Member. Now what?
The UN is your chance to mold the rest of the world to your vision, by voting for resolutions you like and scuttling the rest. However, it's a double-edged sword, because your nation will also be affected by any resolutions that pass. (You can't just obey the resolutions you like and ignore the rest, like real nations do.)

The ignorance of you all amazes me.

Look at some of these idiotic resolutions you people pass! This tree one for example! Who says that if my country needs timber to sustain an economy, I cant cut it down! See, I'm not hurting anyone, but I need it to make my economy strong. Now the UN is trying to say I can't.
Btw, I have strick enviornmental laws, just showing an example. Want more?

... Want more?
No, not really.
* You refuse to read the rules of the site or recognize that this UN has power.
* You jump in with your first forum post calling for something we've all heard about a million times, and call us idiots when we don't jump on your bandwagon.
* You refuse to take into consideration that the very people you are calling idiots are the ones most opposed to the very laws you state.
* You refuse to act in a manner befitting a simulation of an International body, even when those who answer you do so.
No, we don't want to hear more of the same from you.

You are making an assumption that really is foolish. Look at the votes on the resolutions. Ever notice that there frequently are 1,000s of nations opposed to the resoultions?
The issue isn't that people are idiots as you'd point out, but rather that there really are differences of opinion on what is good and what is not.
But why don't you consider drafting (not submitting) a proposal that fits more with how your nation feels its strict environmental laws could be a benefit to the international community.
I think you'll find that many of the same people you are talking to now, can prove to be very helpful in achieving the ends you seek.
