What do you think of this proposal draft?

Category: Human Rights

Other the many years of human existence, many races and peoples have made mistakes that leave a permament mark on the world. (Germany for example.) What is sad, is that some people blame the desendants of these people for these things.

Let it be resolved that no human being ever be held responsible for acts of their ancestors that they had no control over. (Excluding of course if they were an active participant in the act.)

Unfortunately, UN resolutions can't wave a magic wand and cure beliefs. Just as we can't make a resolution that makes everyone like homosexuals, or make a resolution to ban capitalism, we can't make a resolution to make it so no one ever blames someone else's kids for doing something mean to them.

Sorry. We just don't have that kind of power, especially when it's just a written suggestion.

Sincerely yours,

I think that implication is one of legal responsibility, a slavery reparations first come to mind. I agree with the proposed draft.

I think that implication is one of legal responsibility,

That's what I meant. If only someone were to give me one more endorsement.

God punsihes descendents for the sins of their ancestors. Are you saying that God is morally wrong?

It seems that alot of these resolutions are infinging on personal librties and free speech. If people want to be racist morons, thats their right, so long as they still obey the law.

I rufes to allow the UN to have more control over the laws of my nation than I do.

Well, if god exists, and does that, then yes indeed, god is morally wrong and horrendously vindictive.

I think what this requires is to make it clear that no individual or group of individuals shall be held legally accountable for the actions of their ancestors. However, you might want to make it clear that governments may be seen as continuous entities, at least in the short-term, regardless of personell changes (barring total overhauls), so that governments can be held accountable for their recent actions.

Wizpig likes the general principle of your resolution, however it's incredibly incomplete and lacks any real purpose. There is no real operative clauses and the wording of the resolution is quite bad.

If you keep working on it, and polish it Wizpig might change it's current standpoint. As it stands right now, The Republic of Wizpig refuses to endorse any such resolution.

Um, the UN does have more control over the laws of your nation than you do. Like it or not, UN rules are binding on all nations including yours.

What is this reference to a person, place, or thing called Germany? Next you are going to tell me that there is some other real UN or a silly magical place called America.

[Out Of Character: I refuse to vote on a resolution talking about the real world. NationStates is not. If your proposal can't stand without a reference to Germany, which by the way happens to be one of my most favorite places to visit ... I'll be spending another few weeks there in May and June ... then you need to rewrite your proposal.]

Look at the Rights and Duties proposal (in the proposal queue) to see an example of a well written proposal.
