Some people take it seriously, others look for humor. If you want to discuss a serious topic like abortion or gun control, you can expect serious replies. If you choose to go with the silly side, your proposal still needs to fit the rules of the game, and it really helps to be funny.

This forum is an exchange of ideas among people with either a casual or a serious interest in nation-building. None of us likes to have our time wasted by spam and similar annoyances. An attempt to use proper grammar and spelling, especially in proposals, will go a long way towards getting positive responses to your ideas.

You may safely assume that people who read the forums take it more seriously than the average 'two minutes a day' player. The server issues make it hard work to participate, so time-wasters get even less sympathy here than most places. Does that answer your question?

To be humerous, they have to be funny. Its hard.

If you don't take it seriously (at least at some level) then what's the point playing?

"... attempt to use proper grammar and spelling..."

I'm sorry, but the present proposal is hardly a shining example of either. Can't proposals at least be proof-read by whoever it is who agrees them? This might sound a little snobbish but there is nothing more likely to make me completely ignore what may otherwise be a sound proposal than dreadful composition.

Hi, I'm John Marat. You wanted to get serious, so let's let's get serious, okay? Okay everyone, let's close our eyes and really focus.

Now here at Albion we take our duties in the UN very, very seriously indeed. We work long days and nights trying to...make the UN a better place for the children. Because, I believe that children are our future, okay? So yes, yes, my friend, the UN is a serious place, with serious people, doing very, very serious things.

Okay, deep breath...

and relax.

You've been great, I've been John Marat, thanks for listening. ^_^

No no, our futures are old age, and death. That's it. forget the kids, how about the adults? We're the ones who are going to be gone sooner, we should worry about ourselves!

The most glorious nation of Bahgum prides itself on its serious attitude. Our magnificent leader guides us in writing proposals on the most pressing issues of the time. To date we have considered the human rights position of mothers in law, pigeon battalions, taxation of the obese, permits for lycra, summits on space rocks, politicians legs for landmines, free trade of wives and the restoration of the pub to none PC splendour.
Bahgum is always amused by the very serious discussions which can follow such proposals and especially the unexpected directions these can go in.
We are currently working on the use of mothers in law as a non-lethal alternative to nuclear weapons. We suggest you write about whatever you like, have fun and be prepared for unpredictable debate, and remember....some nations think this is real!!!

Exactly, i mean thet game as Max said

Is it a serious political thing, or just for fun?
Well, you can play it either way. NationStates does have humorous bent, but that's just because international politics is so inherently funny.

well as far as the grammer thing some people have trouble with spelling and grammer, due to learning disabiltys/simple ignorence. it's not ther fault, while i agree that you should make an effort, dont be a stickler. but also ya, if you dont take it sereusly it's not fun. just donte obsess.

I realize that some people may have problems constructing their ideas without typos, but that's what spell check/grammar check is for. It's also what the person reviewing the proposal should be doing. Also, everyone who supports the proposals before they go into queue for voting should be checking as well. Why support a pile of rubbish?

To me, a proposal with gross typos is distracting and difficult to read. It also communicates to me that the author is not taking it seriously, and does not stand behind or respect the proposal enough to care that it is put forth coherently. Laws are written and rewritten and diction is questioned and so forth over and over because the written words are supposed to communicate the way the law is executed. If it's a bunch of typos and trash it hardly warrants attention at all.

That's been our two cents.

I won't even get into the wrongness of certain sentence structures...

Please at least TRY. Can't spell? Use a dictionary. Not good with the english language? See how other people use it. Try to emulate their usage. Read books. It doesn't take a genius to learn how to write clearly and understandably.
