Restriction on Sexually Transmitted Diseases

14-02-2004, 18:53
The theocracy of Shirresh in consideration of international health concerns and the specific nature of the United Nations regarding issues of international relations is considering making the following proposal listed below. As proposals once created can not be edited and once approved can not be withdrawn, it is asking for commentary before submitting it for approval of delegates:

RESTRICTION ON SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE

Strong resolution for World Health

Whereas there are certain classes of diseases whose transmission is completely preventable and totally controlled as they require bodily contact or exchange of bodily fluids, and

Whereas the spread of such diseases is easily controlled by limiting ability to contact others, and

Whereas prevention of the spread of disease across the borders of nations is desireable,

It is therefore resolved to impliment the following restrictions on travel to those with such diseases.

1) All nations shall restrict travel outside their own borders of any citizen currently infected with a sexually transmitted disease. This shall include AIDS as it requires exchange of bodily fluids to transmit.

2) For the promotion of world health, there shall be an allowed exception to clause one to allow travel to properly quarrentined forums on disease control and world health.

3) Those that contract diseases of this class while visiting another nation of which they are not a citizen shall be restricted by this resolution to travel that returns them to their home nation.

Sounds to restricting, the paperwork given should just say that they have it, not restrict access.

These diseases are totally avoidable by proper practices and if nations wish to allow it unrestricted internally that is their issue. I do not want it bring brought into my country and it should not be spread to other countries. We have a duty to curb the spread of diseases. Since most are curable, this will get the idiots that wish to travel to get treated and perhaps the others to take precautions to prevent it because of the cost on their rights of travel. The UN was formed for just this sort of purpose, to deal with issues of international relations and travel including stopping disease epidemics.

Individuals are responsible for their own health. The government, especially the UN, has no place interfering with the rights of STI carriers. Individuals are responsible for themselves; they must take the steps to protect themselves from STIs.

Lubria opposes this, and any, legislation that discriminates against a group of society needlessly. The minor benefits gained by this resolution are outweighed by the loss in civil freedoms.

STIs are preventable, but don't you think the disease itself is punishment enough? And don’t construe this as anything else but punishment. The benefits of this resolution are minor. Why should the citizens of one country be protected from their own stupidity, while the infected’s home country is left without defense? If you want to carry this to the extreme, you may as well round up all these people and put them in camps, so they can never infect anyone again. Outrageous!

...people are responsible for their own health, and in control of themselves >>;;
If they were stupid enough to go around and be careless, ignoring all the consequences that could happen....the disease that they end up with is the consequence that they inflicted among themselves.

Exactly, and any person in the future who becomes infected is due to their own actions, or lack their of. The road runs both ways, my friend.
