Rebeland Demands Veto Power

13-02-2004, 06:46
Distinguished fellow UN members:

The great nation of Rebeland has long since been a member of the UN, and an integral part of NS life. Considering Rebeland's large population, and well-established economy, we are requesting (or demanding, depends on answer) veto power. As it would seem, there have been certain proposals passed that we have been forced to comply with, that we did not support at all. We would not wish to be the only nation with veto power, but we do think that this should be taken into consideration.

Thank you for your time.

Lubria refers Rebeland to The Free Land of United Phoenicia (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/16032/page=display_nation/nation=united_phoenicia) which boasts a population of 2.19 billion. This far exceeds your population of 273 million. Their "frightening" economy also betters your "Powerhouse". But that's beside the point, it'll never happen anyway.

To the distinguished representative from Rebeland,

No.

For a nation so wise and powerful, you should know that this is a game mechanics proposal, which qualifies it for deletion even before I apply the rest of my rhetorical analysis to the text. If that doesn't do it for you, I would refer you to the argument Lubria offers, in which being a) big or b) powerful only means that your big and/or powerful, not special. There is nothing uniquely qualifying about Rebeland, let alone something uniquely qualifying that would merit the power to unilaterally tell the entire United Nations General Assembly what is good or bad. This is a democratic institution, not a democratic institution except for Rebeland because it's so cool.

If the representative from Rebeland doesn't want United Nations policy to apply to them, it would be most prudent for them to leave the United Nations. Not only would that save you the trouble of complying with resolutions that you don't approve of, but also free up your office for the growing delegation from Sophista.

Please let us know if you intend to leave the minifridge and ficas.

Sincerely yours,
Daniel M. Hillaker
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Has this been proposed? He asks, dreading the affirmative answer.

In fact, it appears as if it hasn't, yet...

Everyone, take a deeeep breath.

Rebeland, nobody gets anything close to a veto power until they've got "Game Moderator" under their name.

Lol, yeah, something to give thanks for every day... :)

(Oh moderators, praise be to thy just and mighty beings!) :D

That, and, well, I don't think some of the more level headed and N.S. educated players want to have to start chanting "Game mechanics issues... game mechanics issues...", for the next few pages...

Think about it! EVERYBODY has to abide by proposals they don't agree with! That's the bad bit about the U.N. It totally defeats the nature of the U.N. to make countries immune to proposals they don't like- live with it! Sorry if I sound agressive

Thats preposterous!!!!!! Veto power should be programmed into this pseudo-UN rpg.

And, why does Rebeland, puny nation that it is, think it deserves veto powers, something only assigned to the men and women in green :?:

As a UN member since May 18, 2003, I hereby veto your request.

This has been an OOC post.

And why, pray tell, do you think that?

More to the point, why should you be one of the nations to get veto power?
14-02-2004, 04:52
If multiple nations had veto power than none of the proposals would be passed because at least on person with veto power would disagree with it.

Rebeland should be granted veto power for the following reason: Rebeland posesses the unparalelled might of the ballistic anti-matter ICBM. The afforementioned is so powerful, it could possibly have apocalyptic repercussions.

[OOC] This is getting tiresome, Rebeland. You're about the same age as Frisbeeteria, and all we've managed to produce is a few statesmen and one genetically devastated internal state. If you want to Godmod, go to one of the roleplay forums. This isn't going to happen in the UN.

The representative from Rebeland will resume his seat! Sir, you are fortunate that you are not subject to any further censure from this body (OOC: You can't be, the UN doesn't eject you for godmoding yet) for these outrageous comments.
I move to close debate on this particular motion.
