THE DAWNING REVOLUTION

I just submitted "the dawning revolution", a U.N. proposal to recognize the truth about U.N. delegate oppression in NationStates. I feel a certain level of despair about the whole business, to tell you the truth. On Sunday the voting will end, and if 147 U.N. delegates don't approve this thing, it dies. It's that simple. And on top of that, the moderators may arbitrarily shut the proposal down for "changing the game mechanics" again, which the proposal does not do. But the first step towards hope may never reach the people. There are ways you can help, if you are willing. Most of them include making these delegates aware of the resolution, and why it is important. I believe the Dawning Revolution is important because I believe recognizing the truth about wrongdoing is the first step of repentence. Similarly recognizing the truth about oppression is the first step of thwarting it. I doubt this will pass, at the moment I am the only approving party. But I don't want to regret having not atleast tried to get this through.

And I do have faith there are atleast 147 delegates of integrity out there, I know there has to be.

1. The UN doesn't adminster Regions. The UN is composed of Nations, not Regions.

2. It's Game Mechanics

3. Frisbeeteria, on principle, refuses to support any Proposal or Topic in ALL CAPS. It's rude to shout.

4. It's Game Mechanics.

5. It seems pointless for you to have submitted such a clearly thought out, grammatically correct, well written proposal on something you knew beforehand would be deleted.

6. It's Game Mechanics

7. Frankly, it sounds like sour grapes on your part. You got ejected. Move on.

8. Finally, it's Game Mechanics.

The Dawning Revolution

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy; A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.
Strength: Significant

Proposed by: SolaceArmonia

Description: Numerous U.N. delegates are abusing the privilege of ejection. Accountable to no one, they have forsaken the ways of democracy to pursue political singularity. Exiling without explanation, these delegates have made themselves dictators, leaving many member nations victimized and helpless. In response to this injustice, SolaceArmonia has produced a resolution to provide for the advance of democracy.

Be it resolved, the U.N. shall recognize the truth of this injustice. The U.N. as a whole shall not condone the actions of these oppressors and these tormentors, but instead recommends the below standard of conduct.

1. It shall be confirmed as acceptable to eject member nations for verbal misconduct such as profanity, slander, maliciousness, and the promotion of true criminal activity. In the event of an ejection, this resolution will make it proper protocol for the U.N. delegate to post proof of objectionable material in the region’s chat room, thus becoming accountable to general investigation, and to also send a telegram of explanation to the exiled nation.

2. It shall be recognized as unacceptable to use ejection as a means of stemming verbal opposition and/or political opposition (such as the seeking out of endorsements). Political ambition shall no longer be a valid excuse for ejecting a member nation. There must always be a logical cause for ejection, which may be further defined by each region as a whole, and the cause must always remain vulnerable to all scrutiny and criticism.

Once a U.N. delegate has clearly violated the above protocol, endorsing such an individual shall also become unacceptable.

Note: This resolution in no way changes the game mechanics. The Dawning Revolution does not require the moderators to perform any action, but only solicits the U.N. to stand behind the principles above.

Voting Ends: Sun Feb 15 2004

Now for commentary...

I'd say you've got one of two problems: Either the proposal will be enforced, in which case it's a direct change to the game's mechanics (my rule of thumb: anything which requires changes to the coding or the behavior of the mods is a game mechanics change), or the proposal won't be enforced, in which case there's not really a point to passing it, is there?

If a delegate ejects people without cause, that delegate is likely to find themself running out of endorsements -- if they don't lose endorsements, then evidently the sovereign nations of the region have ruled that their delegate was acting within bounds. It's just that simple. If someone is kicked out a region for no apparent reason, they shouldn't have any problem finding (or even founding) another.
