Too Specific... AGAIN!!!

The Most Serene Republic of Lancamore would like to express the opinion that the current resolution is unneccesary and, although proposed in the best of intentions, should not be passed.

In reality, the resolution would be debated and edited until it reached a final state approved by most of the voting states, etc.

In the world of NationStates, this is impossible. The closest approximation we have is to leave resolutions as being fairly general. This, in our opinion, rings true with the spirit of the game. A real law would have to go into very specific depth, providing definitions for terms and expressions, literally hundereds of pages of legal jargon. Once again, real laws are not practical in NationStates.

Although this resolution is likely to pass, i have voted against it, and I encourage other UN members to advocate more general resolutions where possible. I hope that this opinion becomes more widely adopted.

In the hope for a better future,

Exactly the oposite as with the "Passport Harmonization" proposal, but no one seems to get it. You cannot start to put in "all-that-should-be-in-a-real-life-law" in a UN proposal, first is not the spirit of this game, second it would take thousand of pages to explain; and to properly execute the resolutions would be hell for everyone, since no one can write a law that would work for all nations: Theocratical Kingdoms, Communist and Capitalist Democracies and Dictatorships, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

To everyone that wants a RL simulator: DON'T PLAY NATIONSTATES or stop bothering everyone that wants to have fun with it, whatever makes you most comfortable.

Thank you... Have a nice day...

Bariloche, it's not up to you how others want to play the game. If I want to play it as a civil rights loving anti-dictatorship nation bent on imposing democracy on other UN nations then I will. It says right in the game instructions that part of the reason for the UN is for some nations to impose their will on other nations. There is no game rule at all against doing so, so there.

Bahgum does not mind how nations approach the game, we are amused by both the daft proposals and also by those nations with no wit or humour who seem to think that the virtual UN should change real life (very amusing). Although we are concerned that, with the exception of a few enlightened nations, that dullness is becoming epidemic amongst proposals...it's not that hard to make them interesting. Also, drugs, prostitution and sexuality...please...no more... there are other topics in the world, and a few you can make up with a little imagination....

[WTF???] Sure, you are right, I don't know what I was thinking... Except... maybe that I didn't say anything about how you are suppoused to play the game and that the only things I said were about the proposals of the UN and the way you should see them, NOT decide about them, and that you should not expect NationsStates to be a Real Life simulator.

I only mentioned government descriptions as a way of seeing that this game allows so many facets of politics to be expressed that it would be impossible to create a law (as trivial it could be) that would be fitted into every nation.

Now that I think about it, you must not even know that I was saying all this out of character (yes... that's what OOC means) and that maybe you didn't even know what RL was standing for there; you must not even have realized that I was trying to be light-hearted about what I was writing. The end must give away post that are like that, but you don't know that ither.

Thank you... Have a nice day...
