BBC - Joccia, the King speaks

09-02-2004, 16:18
Today, King Mac the Third of Joccia made an historic public announcement to the People of Joccia

“Whereas the United Nations has seen fit to legalise Euthanasia in International Law, and, whereas Joccia is a member of the United Nations and is bound by the resolution. We have today issued legislation pursuant to the above. This legislation supersedes and revokes any precedent legislation on the subject of Euthanasia.

Every individual person in Joccia has the right to make their choice with regard to resuscitation, or attempted resuscitation of their body should death occur, or receiving life prolonging treatment where little or no hope of recovery is in evidence or the prolonging of life in a comatose state where the condition of the brain is deteriorated or unknown. This is to be signified in a “Living Will”, which must be witnessed by two persons, and registered with a notary or solicitor.

No person or persons shall have the right to make any such decision concerning the life or death of another.

Any person suffering from a chronic or terminal illness, who believes that their suffering is beyond their capacity to endure may request such treatment as will alleviate that suffering, even if such treatment results in death.

In the case of a person who is unaware of their state by either mental debility or coma, the relatives or other concerned persons shall have no rights to request termination of life.

The preceding law is effective immediately.

The above law is acceptable to us the Joccian Ruler. The law as stated in the UN resolution is not.

We have, by action and the sacrifice of our people, shown the world the results of the actual wording of the Euthanasia Legislation as written by Grande.

Joccia is a great many lives poorer by the direct result of Grande's poorly worded resolution. This cannot be allowed to happen again.

This sounds like the political and economic pressures that nations outside of the NationStates United Nations and a few of us in this slow to act organization have had some positive effect.

On the behalf of the Joccian refugees that did make it to my country and others, I feel obligated to ask what assurances do they have that your government simply didn't run out of viable citizens to kill?

How would you feel towards a coalition of governments sending in a human rights inspector or comissioner for some time? Would you agree to this? If so, I'd be more than happy to reword my draft UN proposals to legalise this action and stress the importance that nothing like this ever happen again in a UN member state.

EDIT: Oh wait, I realize what government I'm talking to ... by legalise this action I mean the sending in a UN comissioner. My government can't justify the death of 100,000s in the name of teaching the UN a lesson. That act is deplorable, as witnessed by the anti-Mac III movements springing up around the world. You even managed to shock heavy metal and industrial bands worldwide, as I've seen several albums with an image of your King smiling and waving a UN flag over a pile of skulls. It would be disturbing if not for the love of satire in my country.

These anti-Mac demonstrations are, indeed, getting out of hand. People just do not realize that burning these machines release harmful chemicals into the air that they, in turn breathe. If they really detest these computers, they should recycle them and purchase another brand, not take to the streets with tor....

What?

*Ahem* My apologies, it appears that I am wanted in another thread about outlawing fruiticious operating systems for non-graphic designers in the UN.

We are conizant of the concerns of the compassionate nation of Mikitivity. We are content to enter into any dialogue her government, or other UN nations, may request. However, there are some simple conditions:

1. The UN and her members must accept that Joccia acted wholly within International Law, in her interpretation of the UN resolution on Euthanasia. Joccia, at no time used "loopholes" she strictly adhered to the actual wording of the law. Joccia will accept, in turn that the human cost she extracted was wholly unacceptable and inappropriate, and that certain members of her government may be guilty of crimes against the people of Joccia and as such will be subject to investigation, and if appropriate, formal charges.

2. Any Inspectors or Commissioners we accept into our Sovereign State shall report their findings first to the King of Joccia, who shall have the right to amend, or add to the report as he shall see fit.

3. The King of Joccia shall receive Royalty Payments for the use of His image in commercial transactions in Mikitivity and elsewhere

We should be grateful to the esteemed nation of Palinu if they would forward information of this further flagrant unlicenced use of our Royal Name. Of course a commission would be payable against any unpaid royalties we redeemed

Ambassador 10k falls to the floor upon hearing the Joccian demands.

I'll respond to your other two outrageous demands when I'm through laughing.

I expect this may take a day or two.

But be warned, we hold the tenent of free speech dearly in the Confederation. So much that we recognize the fair use clause that many industrial artists take advantage of in many societies.

If you have an issue with these artists or my government's fiancing of them, why don't you take that up with a world court. Because now it is my nation's turn to twist international law, but honestly there isn't a thing you can do to prevent artists from using King Mac's brutual image in satirical or any other form.

Ahem, we've even found evidence of black metal cults starting to preach the word of King Mac while praciticing devil worship! Again, since my government protects the freedom of protection, they are allowed to worship your Joccian Death Squads in the privacy of their own homes.

Well, it was worth a try, and the Old King's a bit broke this week!

Well, it was worth a try, and the Old King's a bit broke this week!

That raises a very interesting question, where is King Mac? Killing is being done in his name, in much the same way that your nation illegally hides behind UN resolutions by twisting their words, and yet, it is others in your government that have been the visible forces behind your killing fields.

Would it be possible for him to address this assembly? My government would even offer use of our telepathic guards for any Joccian delegation traveling to visit this assembly. The telepaths could scan everybody and forewarn your delegation should a rotten egg be inbound. Given the fact that right now your nation is still not popular in the streets and alleys of Miervatia and many other major cities, this might not be a bad idea.

I assure you that our teeps would stay within line-of-sight the entire time.

We shall take your request under advisement. Our King has not left these shores in many a year, and we are unsure of the unrest it may cause at home. Be assured the request will be passed to the Privy Counsellors.
