Passport Harmonization!? Not!

09-02-2004, 10:04
:!: Passport Harmonization!? Let's go one better and mandate barcode tattoos on every citizen (aka Hitler). While you're at it, why not require every citizen to be stamped with a number (book of Revelations, if that's your persuasion). Might I remind those of you in larger, more powerful nations, of this simple truth, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". Vote NO, or the things you take for granted will become luxuries of the eliete.
The Free Land of Fogminds is a small, progressive nation, that will end Its association with the United Nations if this horrid, stripping of personal liberty is passed!

The Free Land of Fogminds, was misquoted earlier. Our representative, while admired for his enthusiasm, was mistaken. We DO EARNESTLY feel that the current U.N. proposal does NOT serve the best interests of society however, realizing that the only way to change the system, is from within, We renounce ONLY the statement that Fogminds would cede from the U.N.
It is our intention to serve as a role model for all those who seek personal freedom and personal liberty. We welcome all who share these tenants.

Okay, just a few points...

1) Whats the big deal, all I see when I read this proposal is is the idea of a unified passport system that would minimise the number of passports rejected on arrival due to local authorities missinterpreting a set of data or lack of certain data.

2) It seems to be a passive, agreeable way of minimising passport forgery, and by rabbiting on about "Hitler" nd "The Book" your just clouding the issue with hysterics, okay, some people may find it to be some kind of privacy violation, but at the end of the day, if your travelling legally anyway, what do you have to be afraid of???

3) Why do people with virtually no arguments in their favor always hide behind some big dusty book of "religious" stuff. In case you have not noticed, more people have probably died throughout history in wars in the name of (Or names of) God/s, then have from illness... I mean, jeez, whats so great about a religious figure, that people go and blow people up in cafes, just because they don't hold the same opinion on human origin, you lot should just get over yourselves...

Eh, my rant is over, thanks to Fogminds for supplying this platform for debate.

I don't see the problem with standardised travelling documents, it's not the same as requiring everyone to carry ID and is certainly not an incursion on the rights of the individual.

It makes sense, so I voted for it though I am not altogether happy with the constant meddling by the UN into such matters, this is not an issue of State Sovereignty so I support it.

Cheers

Have to say the proposal sounds perfectly sensible to me, even if you are big into civils rights. It has not been suggested that anymore information, than at present, is taken; or would any information be stored centrally.

If anything it helps a persons civil rights on an international level, because people from nations who just couldn't be bothered to put Box X on their passport, will not suffer unnecessary red tape or entry refusal at the other end.

It also a choice if you don't want a passport, you don't have to one.
