Hegemony

Burma AND Myanmar
05-02-2004, 03:17
Greetings, UN members.

I recognize that there are many proposals coming to your attention at the moment...however, one in particular deserves your attention -- the UN's very existence may depend on it.

The possibility for hegemony is as high as it ever has been, and as an organization, we must take every possible step to prevent it. In order to do so, the Prevention of Hegemony resolution must be voted upon and pass. We can solve the problem if we act quickly.

The text of the resolution is as follows:
Prevention of Hegemony
A resolution to restrict political freedoms in the interest of law and order.

Category: Political Stability Strength: Significant Proposed by: Burma AND Myanmar
Description: With the state of the world as it is, the possibility could arise allowing a single superpower to gain an inflated amount of power. Such a superpower would undoubtedly upset the balance of power, jeopardizing regional and global security. It is the UN's responsibility to take action to ensure that proper action is taken to prevent such a takeover. Therefore, be it resolved that if a nation is determined to be in possession of hegemonic powers, (as determined by the UN) the UN as an organization will take action. Stringent economic, political, and military-based measures will be taken to ensure that the balance of power stays intact. The UN will step in and remove this hegemon before the situation becomes beyond resolution.

Thank you for your time!

Respectfully submitted,

The nation of Sophista would like to extend an invitation to the representative from Burma and Myanmar. As of tomorrow, any citizen from your country will be allowed to attend any Sophista university free of charge, provided they enroll only in INTL280: Global Power Structures.

The idea that you would have the United Nations strip a sovereign nation of its power simply because that nation is prosperous or powerful is ridiculous. Under your proposal, every nation would have to close down factories that produced too good a product, or fire soldiers who were too accurate with their rifles. Not only is this unrealistic, but, as any economist or military expert would tell you, the worst thing you could do for any military or economy.

Please notify a representative from Sophista within the week if you'll be accepting our offer for education.

Sincerely yours,
Daniel M. Hillaker
Minister of Foreign Affairs
