We the Holy Republic of Beaumontia have submitted a proposal to introduce a workers charter.

This is so that workers are protected from working long hours, receiving poverty pay, lacking sufficient health care and are given protection from the outsourcing of jobs abroad.

Please support my proposal, the Holy Republic welcomes any points other nations wish to raise on the matter.

I agree with this, but each nation has a different economy and different monetary situations.

How do you propose our nations set up a poverty pay? One country may not be able to pay what another can.

What about health care? Some countries will inevitably be too backwards to afford decent health care, let alone for everyone.

Would you forbid workers from a poorer country to recieve outsourced jobs? By outsourcing, the economies should eventually find a balance and these nations would be better off in the long run. The talent pool will also even out and lead to increased education quality in these nations, a benefit. What impact would this also have on multinational corporations? These global companies do have some benefit, you cannot argue that they do not.

Median earnings are what are used to determine the minimum wage.

The median earnings for a nation equal the amount where half the population earn above that, and half earn less. In the UK that equals £400 a week (equal to US$700). 70% of that equals £280 a week (US$490). Median earnings are calculated for each nation, not globally.

Workers in foreign countries would not be forbidden from jobs, they'd actually receive excellent wages. This proposal simply means companies will not outsource jobs to slash wage bills. Companies may still outsource, but the 'race to the bottom' is stalled.

Big Business can be a force for good, if the regulations are there to protect the poor and ensure that with power and influence comes responsibility to society. Remember company bosses will benefit from a happier workforce.

Workers are people. As such, they deserve rights.

However, workers are people. As such, they deserve the same rights as everyone else.

The Commonwealth of Aerenwe has recently applied for U.N. Membership-

Should we get in, we will support this measure.

While workers should not be placed above other citizens of their nations, this measure would appear simply to guarantee that they will not be placed below other citizens.

The purpose of this resolution is to bring about a worldwide minimum standard on worker rights.

I designed it to consider each nation's own situation so the minimum wage reflects a nation's economy.

Also on the outsourcing issue, while large economies like the USA, UK and Germany may suffer slightly, it's countries like South Korea or Thailand who suffer the most. The term used is the race to the bottom, where nations will accept even lower wages and worker rights to secure the arrival of big business.

Thailand has suffered greatly from this, losing many manufacturing jobs to China.

This UN charter is very comprehensive in what it sets out to do, it will greatly enhance the wealth and health of workers while encouraging employers to treat their employees like human beings instead of slaves.

To those who support it, thank you. To those who do not, thanks for reading.
