Please consider the Manufacturing Wage Monopoly UN Resolution, to protect workers worldwide, and spur real competition amongst the global leaders in manufacturing. Force corporations to compete on the quality of their products and not the price of their workforce.

Why not just abolish capitalism all together?

This is an absolutely evil idea. There is no valid reason for government to involve itself in wages, which are a private matter between employer and employee.

Before our beloved and esteemed dictator took power, Goryville was a mess. We had no economy. Our unemployment was over 70%. One of the first things the dictator did was bring in manufacturing. We worked long hours for little pay. We built foundaries, and sewed clothing for wealthier nations. We did what we had to do. In less than one generation we turned the country around. We have a thriving economy. We have a very large middle class. Our population is better educated, and healthier than they have ever been. If we had not been able to go through the steps to attract foreign business with low wages, we would not be where we are. This bill would be very detrimental to most developing nations, and we urge the UN to vote against this proposal.

And who would set the wages, pray tell?

Wages aren't companies competing with each other, wages are WORKERS competing with each other. A wage represents the value that the worker sells his labor for.

Workers compete and acquire better skills in order to make higher wages. It's the same principle as companies competing to sell better products in order to make greater profits.

Haven't you folks ever heard of unions?

When corporations hold all the cards, the idea of "free competition" between workers is ridiculous. Corporations can always find someone who will work for less ...whether down the block or on the other side of the planet.

Giving workers the right to form unions that can bargain with their employers over wages and working conditions helps to give workers a little bit of power in their dealings with employers.

I completely support the right to form unions. That's part of the freedom of nonviolent assembly. What does this have to do with the resolution though?

And competition between workers is not ludicrous. There's no lawyer's unions that I know of, yet most lawyers make at least $80k a year. Your theory that a corporation will always find someone to work for less is called Malthusian Economics. It's obsolete by almost two hundred years. According to Malthus, we would all be starving on the streets today since teh world's population would be too big and the supply of labor would increase. This has not been the case.
