Proposed Mandatory National Language

28-01-2004, 18:21
Below is the suggested resolution:

"Whereas, public speaking of a second language is rude and makes others uncomfortable.

Whereas, this speaking of a language not easily understood by the majority of citizens could be seditious and seen as subversive.

Whereas, speaking other languages in public, other than the country's national language is disrespectful and inconsiderate to others.

Therefore let it be resolved that a requirement for all immigration is a language test, with the applicants showing proficiency. Let it also be resolved that any conversations in another language are to be reported. This resolution gives the police power to administer fines and/or prison sentences to offenders.

An exception to this resolution would be in regards to the Free Trade Act, previously passed, whereas differing languages would be acceptable in matters of international trade and diplomacy. "

I would appreciate any support that is available.
Thank you.

This reads like a national issue, nothing the UN has any say over. I'd recommend killing the UN proposal and submitting this as an issue.

Mandating of national languages is, by definition, a national issue. The Rogue Nation of Greenspoint has 3 national languages, so we find the wording of this proposal and, indeed, the underlying assumptions, to be offensive.

We will not support it.

The Republic of Mrwong also does not support this proposal as it feels that its citizens should speak what ever language one chooses too.

We are no longer in the UN, but this seems like a bad idea. It is an attempt to kill cultures.
