27-01-2004, 16:15
Help support and stop crime from running chaoctic in your nations streets.

Take Crime Off The Streets

A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security Strength: Significant
Proposed by: United OverDosed State

"Today, a 13 year old male was shot and killed in his local neighborhood over a agruement with a 15 year old male about a stick of chewing gum."

This is due to not having the money to help support more prisons, staffing for these prisons, not enough officers to work the streets and just overall poor enforcement of the law.

With this proposal, people in the United Nations will have a significant increase of safety and security. Criminals will be off the streets longer, your nations families would be much safer.

This proposal will take measures you make your police force has the proper funding for better and more effective equipment, staff pay and more prisons. This will also help improve your nations security with more funding for military defense by allocating funds to promote growth and encouragment for your nations armies.

Lets help all of our nations families and promote saftey, security and happiness by helping to take crime off the streets.

How would more funding for prisons or more strict laws have prevented such a crime? I would think that if the children of your country are killing each other over chewing gum, you have far more severe problems than a lack of prisons or police officers. Rather, it would suggest to this humble delegate from Alsanchia that your nation needs to invest in social services, education and other programs aimed not at punishing criminals but at preventing your young children from becoming criminals.

If you do not have the money to fully fund your prison system, there are many measure you can take - perhaps you need to raise taxes, or cut funding for other programs. Perhaps you have too many prisoners for drug offenses or political reasons, which are preventing the violent offenders from being locked up. Regardless, this is not an issue for the UN, but rather one for your national government to address.

The nation of Alsanchia does not believe it is the position of the United Nations to interfere in the law enforcement of a sovereign state, save for setting things like minimum standards of human and civil rights.

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Yes, let’s get crime off the streets and back in our corporate boardrooms where it belongs!

Seriously, Lubria feels the solution to crime is not punishment, but education and rehabilitation. Are we tough on crime, yes, but punishment is not a deterrent to us. An educated populace is less likely to commit violent crimes.

I like the intent, a strongy military is good, and a police force (that doesn't have tyrannical powers) is good too. But yeah, I think this is more an individual nation issue rather than a UN issue.

It would be bad to have the UN telling countries how many troops and cops to have in their country.

I agree wholeheartedly (ESPECIALLY on the boardrooms bit..
ANYWAY... Sure, staffing for police is a great idea. But instead of taking all that money and trying to catch people after-the-fact, why don't we teach them BEFORE it happens so that it can be avoided?

After I realized that what I was reading bore little resemblance to the English language, I stopped reading.

Look, there's something called spell-check. Use it, or hire me out. My rates are $15 an hour. Just... don't let this sort of travesty out into public.
