Proposal: Clear Majority

26-01-2004, 05:38
I'm not the creator of this proposal, but thought it needed some attention as it might be quite useful to getting people to go along with the UN.

Clear Majority

A resolution to increase democratic freedoms.

Category: The Furtherment of Democracy
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Undivulged Principles

Description: As it stands, a Resolution may be passed by the slimmest of margins creating situations where the wishes of the majority are not properly represented.

This Resolution would require all future potential Resolutions to reach a 60% majority before a Resolution can be enacted.

Example:

Resolution A receives 9000 votes of support out of 15500 votes tallied. Resolution A would not pass as it did not receive the requisite votes to reach 60% (in this case 9300).

Approvals: 1 (The Cylon Empire)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 143 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Wed Jan 28 2004

Game Mechanics. No.

Actually the fairest way is to not have delegates get to vote twice. Then it's one vote, one person.

But I don't think a supermajority of 60% is needed. I mean if a majority want something, then that's what becomes law in a democratic society. It's not a perfect system, but I think it's the best we got.

No. If the majority pass something in real life, it can later me ammended. There is no comparision to Nation States.

We appreciate the rationale, but alas game mechanics prevent this.

Has the idea of changing game mechanics to allow repeal of resolutions ever been entered over in the Technical Forum?

No more than four or five times for every UN proposal passed. (Can't search on keyword, but a visual search should turn up several topics in the first few pages ... if lag permits ... which it doesn't right now)

It's not going to happen in NS 1. The Word has been Spoken.

Seconds ago: The proposal "Clear Majority" was removed from the floor.
1 minute ago: The Dominion of Ithildra applied to join the UN.
Looks like it's a moot point now.
