Our Nation's Policy on today's Proposed Bills

25-01-2004, 15:48
OOC: ...Yes, I know I probably shouldn't be doing this, but I thought it would be a nice resource for anyone who cared, and... hey, I'm a newbie, so I figured I may as well get my nation's point of view across right from the start, by stating our nation's policy on all the bills that end on the 27th of January.

IC:

As part of our press release regarding our recent entrance into the United Nations, we would like to announce our nation's policies on the bills proposed today, as well as our stance on the United Nation's current bill. Thus, with no further ado, we shall head straight into our stance.

UCPL

The ideals of intellectual property and copyright have never been something our nation has approved of, and as such, we are admittedly slightly disgusted with the support it has gained. In our view, the ideals of copyright are an attempt to claim thoughts and knowledge for one's own profit... We believe in the free flow of information, and feel that information should be a basic right, not something which must be bought.

Small Companies Advertising

We feel that actions done by this bill do little if anything to prevent the production of monopolies, which is what we believe this act to be adressing. As such, we of the Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen feel that this bill should not be approved by the senate.

Rugby as the world game

...After examining the bill in question, We are unable to identify what the bill is actually proposing should be done, and as such feel that this bill should also not be approved.

Limitation on UN Proposals

The Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen support this bill, despite not directly having power to influence its decision. The argument is simple, and we as a nation feel it is only proper that those who are willing to vote be given the opportunity.

No more Commies!

This bill is extremely worrisome, in our point of view. "Communist" by nature refers to all nations who believe in establishing a communal state, wherein the government supports the people. If this bill is passed, we will wind up in a nation controlled by the self-destructive drive to make money, for the sole purpose of it. As such, we earnestly requests that this not even be given the opportunity to be passed.

Required Gas Milage Minimums

The Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen supports the environmental initiatives mentioned in said bill. However, we have a complaint about why hybrid vehicles are not included in the calculations. While it is true that they can use both, it is no guarantee that it would not be run primarily on gasoline, as there is still a large price gap between the costs of the two.

Laws against Paedophilia

The Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen find this bill disturbing in its nature of wording. As a nation, we believe that any consensual acts between two people, regardless of age, should be respected. We do, however, support the ideals of increasing protection relating to sexually based crimes. However, we feel that "Paedophilia" in legal terms, should be defined as "the act of forcing, through physical means or coersion, one below the legally defined adult age to participate in sexual activitities of any form with the offender."

Improve snack foods

The legalization of intoxicating materials such as marijuana is a commonly debated topic in our nation. However, our governing body believes that intoxicating foods and drinks should be kept out of the hands of minors, which is who this bill may be targeting. Thus, we cannot support this bill.

Tariff Restrictions

Whilst we accept the intentions of the bill in question, we feel that the development of undeveloped countries is best handled through establishing a degree of income equality, rather than simply supplying money to countries that seem to need it. All too often, this money winds up in the hands of corrupt officials or greedy capitalists, who do not improve conditions for the actual workers of the nation.

Assistant to U N Deligates

At this point in time, the Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen is not addressing this issue, as we feel that it is unlikely to pass through final scrutiny.

Repeal of UCPL

We of the Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen feel that it is in poor taste to attempt to repeal a bill which as of yet has not yet even been passed.

Taking Power from the Peasants

The remarks made by the nation proposing this bill verges on frightening, and we cannot support his attempts to abuse his power, despite the fact that we also support limited gun control.

Nuclear Weapons Restrictions

Our nation holds a strong belief on disarmament policies. Particularly, any potential weapons of mass-destruction, such as nuclear weaponry. While we feel that this bill falls short of its target, we feel it is a step in the proper direction, and support it.

End Racism

Racism is an issue with no true answer. We of the Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen believe that any attempts to stem racism will only compound the problem. As such, we are against turning racism into a crime.

Sustainable Development

We of the Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen feel that while sustainable development is a target that should be aimed for, this bill falls vastly short of the objectives of attaining Sustainable Development, with no real targets in mind.

Issues as resolutions?

The Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen has no stance on this issue at the current time. If and when it is actually approved, we will announce our stance.

Freedom of Governmental Choice

If this bill is pased, the United Nations will fall apart. The United Nations was formed in the ideals of giving an international standard of laws and proposals. If a Government want to ignore a bill accepted by this, they can resign from the United Nations.

Automobile Pollution

We vastly doubt the physical capability of any government actually managing to accomplish that which is set out in the bill, and as such, cannot support it.

Freedom from Cowards Act

While this is a unique way of handling the problem of international wars, it seems fairly... useless. Ultimately, people will start wars over meaningless things if they are given a large enough military, regardless of the consequences. Deterrence as a whole is a fault mechanism to use, and it's been found that when deterrance strategies are sued to stop crimes, the crimes only get more violent.

Preservation of Antarctica

The Theocracy of Mahou Gakuen has no stance on this issue at the current time. If and when it is actually approved, we will announce our stance.

Petition to ban fat chicks

This proposed bill is a frightening one, especially when considering that for many people, 150 pounds is considered to be an ideal, healthy weight. We cannot support this bill, as it does more harm to health than anything else.

That concludes our press release. We will be answering questions for the next half-hour, but afterwards, one will have to wait for a later official response.

Hmm, it wasn't that bad of an idea. You could credit it as being your 'making-yourself-known' thread.
