Where is the UNs' sense of humour?

Gigglealia is most despondent at the recent analysis of the UN and it's history.

There was a time when this delightful world we live in was resplendent with humour, understated wit could be found lurking in every paragraph, cuning puns hidden behind the most innocuous names...

The world is near on dearth of the funny in these modern times.

Sure, there are some that try and provide the occassional spark of shallow wit, but it, rightfully, is smacked down. Where is the deeper funny gone? When was the last time we saw a proposal that was worth reading and not just someone trying to drag a real world issue into our world of humour?

Bring back the real funny. Our citizens are almost crying for want of the days of old when humour reigned supreme.

Why don't you write a proposal then?

The glorious nation of Bahgum has recently written proposals on: protecting the hop, pigeon battalions, free trade of wives, lycra permits(still live today folks!) , removing the human rights of mothers in law, solar power and asteroids (also live for one day only).
We applaud Gigglealia and look forward to its proposals. Bahgums mission to increase the fun continues!
It should be noted, that Bahgum is also concerned at the lack of quirkiness in the UN. Our proposals have all failed to get more than 30 votes, and have been taken surprisingly seriously by nations with severe sense of humour bypasses. Any help on how to get more votes (constructive) is welcomed. Now that's too much writing with a hangover.....

Take a look back at the "Hippo" debates of a month or two ago and you will see that there is serious official opposition to any proposals which may be deemed "frivolous".

Which is a pity.

We need to have a resolution to state the 'UN has a sense of humour' without such a resolution the UN is devoid of jocularity and frippery.

Why don't you write a proposal then?

Whoa there big boy. Back it up a little. One needs two nominations to make proposals. I could of course make another nation of my own and give myself a second nomination, but that'd be wrong. Unless someone joines my two nation region, I'll not be making proposals.

Note how I was seeking humour and sublte wit, not irreverent friviolity? I'm quite aware of the hippo debacle and I agree it was rightfully stamped down.

Look at the daily issues however. They're all quite serious- yet are mostly umourous, not plain jane boring writing. Mostly. Some of the new ones irritate buggery out of me.

Subtle wit obviosly escapes most of the population, sadly. It would be nice if people were to learn the difference between pointless friviolity and wit :)

That's why I believe in a Technocracy and then we can push the subtle wit and mirth of the intelligensia upon the population at large. By this method I hope to educate the dullards, if it fails I'll euthanise them and start again.

Perhaps puns should be made mandatory, although (to wit) such a revolution in international affairs would leave everyone dizzy.

The Rogue Nation of Greenspoint enjoys a good pun. We REALLY LOVE a bad pun. Recognizing that the pun is the Highest form of humor, we are saddened to think that the majority of National leaders would not get most puns, nor would be able to produce their own.

It is indeed unfortunate.
