Global Currency Proposal

20-01-2004, 18:44
What I've proposed is, basically, an expanded version of the Euro. You more or less take that worldwide. I feel since it's seen success on an entire continent already, it can work on the other 6. ...well, 5 at least. I don't know if penguins use money. To that end, I ask for your support of the Global Currency resolution.

No way, it would change game mechanics i think, as all U.N nations would have the same currency and what would you call it?

Also the name of the proposal would be nice, 8)

It's on page 15, called, appropriately enough, 'Global Currency'. And I made sure that game mechanics would be unaffected. I mention in the proposal that everybody gets to keep their current currency name. That would simply become a part of the native language, which it kinda already is anyway. So it's the same currency, just Japan still gets to name it the yen, America stil lgets to call it a dollar, Argentina still gets to call it toilet paper, and so on.

I will not support this proposal.

One part of a nation's sovereignty is its right to design and print its own currency. Some nations express politcal or religious messages or theologies upon their currency, expressions of ideals, or celebrations of culture. Who are we to dictate the removal of such things? While your intention might mean well, it will not improve global economics if everyone uses the same currency - it only improves exchange time.

Nations will still suffer the same economic strifes with or without this proposal, so let us not further burden the already overburdened responsibilities of all UN members by adding yet another senseless proposal.

This is probably about the tenth time it has been discussed in the UN forum and each time fails to meet enough support to ever consider it.

Unless you want to make the UN into an international market place...

Just so you're aware, I've been here maybe a week and am not aware of such things. I entered the game during the Euthanasia resolution.

um. No.

Pure and simple, we would opose this strongly. A global currency would only lead to disaster. Most of the problem with it results with Production of the money, who makes it? if so how will it be distributed? Who says what value will it have? If I go to affrica and sell a TV for a but load of money and then go to the US a buy three T.V.s with that same money, I've made a profit just because the value of that same currency will be different in different reagions.

Again we say no. Not to mention counterfit money will so ruin smaller and less developed countries

All in all, thisis a bad idea. It works in Europe only because the proximity of the countries prevents instability of the moneys value. But should the Euro ever expand outside of Europe it will loose its value, and will become really unstable.

Have we said this is a bad idea.
We say its a bad idea.
We would vote against it.
We would protest agaisnt it.

The theory of optimal currency area lays out some rules of thumb for when a common currency should be considered. I am not going to bore you with them all now, but it's safe to say that several thousand different economis with different levels of taxation, public service and economic policy shouldn't be integrated.

If the UN so desires it could create the framework for a common currency that countries may voluntarily join, of course, but I fear it will amount to a lot of bureaucratic administration to no avail...

We already have a regional currency in our region, YbeRnOk.
So I donĀ“t think we need to change it ones more.

Catholic Europe does not support this proposal because we feel that the world is too varied, economically, for it to actually work and succeed.
