Secret Ballot - UN Resolution/Proposal

Recently I had gone to vote a certain way on the Legalise Euthenasia resolution at the UN, but, members of my region squawked. Then, I changed it and they still weren't happy, thus, I was unable to vote as I saw fit for the entire region.

For that reason, I have made the following proposal.

If everyone else is given a secret ballot, why can't we as delegates have the same right? It's only fair.

On resolutions that have been tabled here, when the regional delegate goes to vote, they are not guaranteed the same right to a secret ballot that others are allowed to. This has to be overturned. This is a democratic process, therefore, all delegates deserve the right to a secret ballot.

By exposing our votes, we are exposed to the critism of people in our region if we don't vote the way they did. If we then voe the other way, there are more complaints and no one is happy. If there was a secret ballot, none of the delegates would have to worry about offending anyone in their region and they'd be free to vote as they see fit.

Bah, you can't please all the people all the time. Keep the vote public.

Our Delegate solicits input from regional UN members, basically an election, to see which way he'll vote.

Gotta Love Texas :)

But, still, you can see what proposals your delegate approves and make your argument from that point. The secret ballot gives the delegates the same rights that the other UN members have.

Yes, but UN delegates have rights UN members don't. As the delegate, you are a public figure, and have to argue your beliefs. And you, shouldn't change your vote because people yell at you, stick with your true beliefs.

How about giving delegates two votes, one that should represent the will of their region and the other personal, secret ballot that each nation should be entitled to?.............just a thought

United Nations delegates have additional reponsibilities placed upon them, and as such the current method allowing delegate votes to be seen should remain.

Secret ballots are more honest, relying more on conscience and less on public opinion.

A delegate doesn't vote HIS conscience, he votes his Region's copnscience. The fact that his vote is included is a reasonable price to pay for the trust his member nations place in him.

You want a secret ballot? It's easy to get one. Have your region elect a different Delegate.

Regional Delegates are answerable to their constituent nations for their Delegate vote. It should not be a secret.

As a delegate, I have the right to know how the other delegates voted, in order to convince them that they are wrong :!: They have the righ to see my vote, so that they can try to tell me that I am crazy.
