Proposal: Global death penalty

13-01-2004, 14:02
As Ambassador of the Huiskamer region I have been asked to promote the Global death penalty proposal. This proposal has been made by The Theocracy of Rednation (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/42138/page=display_nation/nation=rednation), a member of Huiskamer region.

Description: Some nations already reinstated the death penalty but not all. This should be global for the justice of the victims.

If your kid gets murdered brutally, the criminal should not have the right to live. If we don't put this criminal to death, we're actually saying that we don't fully recognize the value of a young persons live.

And the death penalty provides a great economic advantage. However, this should never be your reason to reinstate the death penalty.

But we can only kill a criminal if his guilt is 100% ensured.

I ask the United Nations not to vote for or against an eventual resolution, but I do ask the members of the UN to send out a signal into out civilized world. Does your country approve the death penalty yes or no?

The Empire is all for the death penalty, having written quite a few death penalty propostions ourselves. However, the world doesn't quite think that this is an imporntant issue enough to get it to a UN vote. The Empire is continuslly working on more propostions to get the capital punishment act through, just to UN vote! Apparently, the regional delegates don't think this is a UN worthy proposal, but we say it is. We will get this to the UN, come hell or high water!

Our country's opinion is that capital punishment will never be the solution to crime reduction. It will only make our societies more violent instead of more safe. Therefor we are strictly against.

The Theocracy of Carakeilia does not comprehend how a fellow theocracy such as yourself can be so vehemently supportive of that archaic practice. Life should be held with value. If the government kills the assailant, then what the government truly is effectively saying is that "an eye for an eye" is acceptable. The government is no better than the perpetrator of that dispicable act if it commits that act itself.

My nation fiercely opposes this bill.

We don't see it as a solution, and we see it in conflict with basic human rights..

Now, where did I leave my veto-stick? :P

The Red Sector throws down its Veto.

You can't kill to show people killing is wrong. And in lesser crimes the hypocracy evident in the death sentence is even greater.

I say send them into outerspace

I made death penalty legal in my nation, but I oppose this. The UN is not made to tell every nation to do something like this. This is a national issue, not a regional one. Also, some religios nations could be horrified by this, because life is held so dear.

We do not oppose teh death penalty on principle, but there are too many practical problems with it for us to support it.

It is not illegal in my country, though its use is heavily restricted, rare, and any use comes under strict scrutiny by the judiciary.

We, of the Kingdom of Hakim, also a member of the Huiskamer are strictly against this issue.
Furthermore, i don't think the UN have any right to tell countries wether or not to apply the death penalty.
