The Global Market

I propose that no nation, nor the United Nations, shall redistribute more than 4% of their GDP every year.

They're slaughtering themselves by not getting jobs.

They're slaughtering themselves by not getting jobs.

Many of those people would gladly take jobs if they were offered. It's not their fault. We need to relax the rules that regulate economics, like minimum wage laws.

No without the minimum wage, companies would pay their workers slave wages! and exploit them corruptly!! We ought to make the minimum wage $1,000,000,000,000 so everyone can be rich!!

You think all 6% of people unemployed in the US are refusing to get jobs?

You think all 6% of people unemployed in the US are refusing to get jobs?

POSTING AS TGM AGAIN: No, they are mostly people who are in transition between jobs. The average person only stays unemployed for about six and a half weeks.

If they still don't have jobs, there are three reasons:

Structural: The government forces employers to pay a certain amount or makes other ridiculous policies like that. In this case, employees get laid off or they aren't hired in the first place. This causes about 25% of unemployment in teh United States. This is easy to get rid of -- abolish minimum wage, salary caps, silly overtime regulations, etc.

Frictional: The company goes out of business because another company produces a better product. This is likewise responsible for about 25% of unemployment. This is harder to get rid of, but reducing government exacerbation would reduce the magnitude of hte problem.

Cyclical: This is unemployment from normal business turnover, etc. This cause about half of all unemployment and, in a market economy, cannot be prevented. However, people who suffer from cyclical unemployment usually find another job within a few weeks.

If someone refuses to get a job [like me], he does NOT count towards unemployment. He counts as a "disgruntled worker" [or, in my case, a student] and is not taken into account in economic statistics.

How about the reason some are unemployed is because they are disabled!

In economics, someone who is truly unable to work (mentally retarded, crippled, etc.) falls in the same category as students and disgruntled workers. They do not count towards the unemployment statistic.

Then companies will not have the ability to pay their employees, lay off most of them or close down all together, and no one will get the 1,000,000,000,000 dollar salary. If that's the way you want it...

When we see mega-corporations stealing from our citizens, using their economiuc leverage to run over all opposition, paying starvation wages and ignoring any concept of the common good, we dismantle them and auction off hte pieces.

We are not thereby redistributing income, but rather preventing anticompetitive goliaths from redistributing the wealth of others to themselves alone.
