Internet Popups decision
why arent people voting FOR getting these damn things banned??? who enjoys popup ads?
If you want pop-up advertisers to band together, you vote for it.
I don't think it is about what is enjoyed or not enjoyed. To make a new law because you are annoyed is frivolous. Come up with a better argument and I will consider.

so, if i want internet popups gone, done with, i vote for or against?
It's hard to vote for a resolution when you notice that the drafters can't even spell correctly. Furthermore, it is idiotic to create a law banning something that annoys you. Perhaps you annoy me....maybe I should draft a resolution banning you, I think people would be more receptive to that law.
We believe banning popups restrict freedom of expression as well as free trade. We of course have voted against the resolution.
And there is that issue of so many spelling and grammar issues.

we have laws and that is we joined the UN by and joining the UN we must vote one way or the other if you think it s beneath you, resign your UN status and go back to your region! theres two kinds of people those that are ruled and those that are so far up their own anal tract they dont know they are being ruled. without POP UP advertising and the money they generate the internet would curl up and die like a skinny dog in a snow storm!

So true, pop ups are a way of generating revenue, and the internet is already hurting, why give it the death blow.
Also, if you're so annoyed, download Google Toolbar, it blocks pop ups for you. Mine has blocked 781 so far, good deal, and it's free.

I voted against it, why cripple two industries, the blockers and the pop up makers, when it is soooooo easy to get hardware to block them. Actually the big grammar mistakes contributed to my and my supporters decision to vote no
I supported the resolution not because popups are annoying, although they definitely they are. There is no reason that advertisers should be able to make an ad show up on my computer screen without my permission. It is one thing if an ad comes as a part of a website, because I have control over what websites I choose to view. However, it is completely different if advertisers can make things show up on your computer without your consent, especially if they are often vulgar and interfere with your computer's ability to function normally.
Also, Anthonycha and Soup nazi embassy, why don't you take a few grammar lessons of your own before you criticize other people's mistakes?

i dont put much effort into grammar checking these posts, I would expect a proposal writer to though. Also that is what the UN members of my region were saying, and i am not going to lie about what went into my decsion on this proposal nor am i gonna waste my time checking my stupid posts on this board
i cant comprehend why people wont vote to get rid up popups. there are plenty of other ways adversiters could advertise other than spamming my computer with annoying popups. billboards, regular ads on websites, commercials. at least with commercials i can change the channel or turn the tv off, with internet popups, i have to continue closing them over and over and over. its inhumane.

the people of my region asked me to, thats why
Most of my sentiments have already be related here, but I would have to agree with the what someone said in relation to spelling. From recollection, I thought the UN passed a motion to the effect that Proposals that contained spelling errors would not be put to the vote.
Of course I can understand your frustration at Pop-Up ads, I hate them myself; but I am beginning to wonder at the nature of this United Nations when the most trival proposal suddenly becomes a ground shaking event. War, Poverty, Economic Crisis, Attacks against personal liberties; these are the things that the United Nations should be concentrating on. Things to improve the welfare of people living in ALL our Countries. Not wasting its time on trivialities that do not affect more than a quarter of the population in any nation.
Can you not see that it all comes down to a matter of perspective. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of my people and as such, I do not have time to waste with trivialities such as these. If you are so frustrated by Internet Pop-Up ads, then do as I do and install a program that stops those Pop-Ups. Do not rely on the United Nations to hold your hand.

from my experiance in the model UN (in good ol' high school)--obviously the serious things are handled, and at the end the delegates have some fun by doing joke reso's. a good example of this is the 'freedom fries' vote in congress. so what, they were bored and wanted to have fun. sure spelling might not be right on, but all the same its worth a vote.
Yes a funny resolution can be funny or a "joke." I'm all for that some of the times. Though these resolutions should be almost just as well thought out as the normal ones. Even for joke resolutions, grammar and spelling rules should still be followed.
I'm no english teacher but for UN resolutions grammar and spelling should be payed attencion to.
Everyone that has voted to keep popups legal has voted to allow internet telemarketers to continue to invade the privacy of everyone with a connection. If popups are legal then so is calling you at home at 2:30 in the morning to sell you viagra or a porn subscription.
Think about!!!

That would be "paid attention to", right?
Of course it is. A little ironic that it was misspelled considering the rest of the post. :D

The point is that this isn't an issue the UN should be deating. Individual countries are free to pass such laws on their own.

We've thought about it. Now you go back and reread the proposal. Come back here and tell us EXACTLY what Purple Haired Vegans have proposed to stop them. Tell us why the Proposal itself is worthwhile, not just the title of the Proposal.
Almost none of us like pop-ups, but this won't do the slightest thing towards stopping them. You may also note that it WILL have an effect on Human Rights (due to the way the proposal was coded). Can you tell me, please, why my nation's human rights would be affected by this proposal? I don't see it. It evades me entirely.
You need to "think about!!!" it a bit more, Pleasanton. While you're at it, go read the 150+ posts most eloquently describing why you should vote against over in the other, better topic:

This is an example of a badly worded resolution I wasn't sure if the vote was for pop-ups or for a ban. I assumed 'a ban' on first go but then the resulting text said I was supporting pop-ups! So I had to change my vote!
Whoever proposed the vote will make a good beurocrat!! :)
